Hawthorne Players Presents ‘Annie’

The Hawthorne Players presents Annie at the Florissant Civic Center Theatre on July 29 and 30, Aug. 5 and 6 at 8 p.m., and July 31 and Aug. 7 at 2 p.m.

Annie offers a timely story of hope and determination, of looking for a better tomorrow while appreciating the present.

The show has a very personal message for Ken Clark, who directed and designed the Hawthorne Players production. His home in Maryland Heights was destroyed by the Good Friday tornado.  The home is being rebuilt and some of the salvaged wood from his house and surrounding neighborhood is being incorporated into the Hooverville shanty for the production.

Clark notes, “In a time not so far removed from the one in which Annie finds herself, many of us know someone who is or has recently been out of work and our economy is struggling. Not to mention the unbelievable storms this spring.”

The Hawthorne production will surely lift the spirits.  Filled with wonderful songs, the stars the delightful Grace Robertson as Annie and Jim Merlo as Warbucks.  The musical features a cast of wonderful voices, directed by Ike and Mary Eichenberger, and a full orchestra led by Joseph Paule, Sr.  Jeanette Remines choreographed and Jean Heckmann designed the costumes.

And, of course, the cast includes some terrifically talented “orphans” along with veteran stars from Hawthorne shows.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $16 for older adults and students. For tickets, call the Box Office at (314) 921-5678 or visit the Hawthorne Players webxite at www.hawthorneplayers.com.
