Local Food, Riverfront Views

ALTON, Ill. – This September, the Alton Amphitheater is inviting the community to slow down, gather with friends and family, and enjoy three Friday evenings filled with live music, local food and unparalleled sunsets over the Mississippi River.

The 2026 Pop-Up Concert Series will take place Friday, September 4, September 11 and September 25 from 6-9 p.m., offering a relaxed atmosphere with regional live music, food vendors, yard games and plenty of room to spread out along Alton’s scenic riverfront. Admission is free.

Created as a pilot program for the 2026 season, the series is designed to bring more people to the amphitheater outside of major festivals while exploring new ways to activate the space and expand community programming.

“The amphitheater is one of Alton’s greatest public gathering places, and we want to activate it beyond our signature events,” said Abby Haynes, Chair of the Alton Amphitheater Commission. “The 2026 Pop-Up Concert Series is an opportunity to experiment with a different style of programming, encourage more people to enjoy the riverfront, and learn what resonates with our community as we continue growing the amphitheater’s event calendar in the years ahead.”

Three Fridays: September 4th, 11th and 25th

Rather than focusing on one genre, the 2026 Pop-Up Concert Series showcases performers from across the Metro East and St. Louis region, giving audiences a different musical experience each week.

Friday, September 4 – Matt “The Rattlesnake” Lesch – Blues

The series opens with Matt “The Rattlesnake” Lesch, an award-winning blues musician from St. Louis. A 2025 Sean Costello Rising Star Award recipient from Blues Blast Magazine and Best Rock Blues Album nominee, Lesch has performed at the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise, North Atlantic Blues Festival and Ground Zero Blues Club, and has shared the stage with Buddy Guy, Bobby Rush and Christone “Kingfish” Ingram. Friday, September 11 – Aragon – Teen Rock Band

Aragon brings high energy, bold sounds and an exciting stage presence to the riverfront. Made up of musicians ages 16-17, the teen rock band performs a mix of classic rock covers and original music for audiences of all ages. Website: aragontheband.com

Friday, September 25 – Borderline – Country

Borderline closes the series with one of the St. Louis metro area’s premier country music experiences. Performing throughout the region for more than 20 years, the band has built a social media following of more than 17,000 fans and is known for its strong live shows and broad regional appeal. Food, Drinks & Family Fun

Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy an evening along the Mississippi River.

Outside food and non-alcoholic beverages are welcome during the 2026 Pop-Up Concert Series. Guests are also encouraged to support the local businesses participating in each event, with food available for purchase.

Assorted beer, Carbliss and other alcoholic beverages will also be available for purchase on site.

In addition to live music, families can enjoy casual lawn games while taking in some of the region’s most spectacular sunset views.

There will be no 2026 Pop-Up Concert Series event on Friday, September 18, as the community prepares for the 2026 Mississippi Earthtones Festival on Saturday, September 19, presented by Alton Main Street, the Sierra Club and Jacoby Arts Center.
