Florissant Host Festival at Duchnesne Grounds Aug. 29

This year is the 50th Anniversary of the Polish Festival in St. Louis, Missouri. It began in 1975 when a small group of dedicated Polish Falcon members decided to share their ancestry fabulous foods and great Polka music with the St. Louis region.

This group of\ hard-working Polish people, many were first generation Poles, worked for weeks to prepare     for the Festival.

All the food was made by hand – the scrumptious pierogi (dumplings), golabki

(cabbage rolls), sauerkraut and Polish style green beans. The sausage has always come from Piekutowski Sausage Shop in Old North St. Louis, and they are still there today.

There were souvenirs to purchase that showed the artwork of the Polish people. The Polish cut-outs Wycinanki all handmade as bookmarks, ornaments and decorating art. There were t-shirts, pottery and other items for people to purchase.

The Pastry booth was a place where folks could get their fill of delicious delicacies.

There were Paczki (Polish fruit filled doughnuts), Chrusciki (Polish cookies), cakes, candies and so much more to take home and enjoy! We still to this day make these delightful goodies to take home. These were all made by the hard-working group of Polish Festival pioneers who felt their ethnic pride should be shown to the St. Louis community.

Come try games of chance, get a drink of beer or Polish vodka, enjoy your meal and dance the night away.

We are ever so grateful for these individuals who had the foresight to start this tradition that still goes on today.
