SOROPTIMIST members, escorts and models pose on the staircase of Delmar Garden Villas North at the recent 35th Soroptimist Fashion Show
The Soroptimist International of Greater St. Louis held its 35th annual Fashion Show on Saturday, Nov. 6, at Delmar Garden Villas North. Julie Berthold, director of the Villas and Cathy Bono, administrator of Delmar Gardens North did an outstanding hosted this event. The guests were greeted in an opulent setting, with an ice sculpture of the signature Soroptimist Helping Hands, carved by Delmar Garden’s own chefs, Gary Hall and Joe Modica.
Before luncheon, guests sampled cheese, fruit, crackers and wine, while sitting at the tables laden with exquisite baskets for raffle. A chocolate fountain was a scrumptious way to end the feast.
Soroptimist president Susan Keuss and fashion show chairperson, Norine Haffer greeted the guests and thanked them for their support and generosity. Cathy Bono presented the Soroptimist Ruby Award: For Women Helping Women to: Valerie White, co-owner of White Auto Body, and Teresa Miller, a local community volunteer.
Teresa Miller, long time North County resident, was honore for 40 years of service to her parish (St. Angela Merici) and volunteering at the Pillars of North County ande Delmar Gardens North where she expanded a volunteer program of young students visiting with the elderly at the retirement centers.
Valerie White, co-owner of White Auto Body, was honored for the long list of organizations that she gives her time and energy helping women .Each year she holds an event called Benevolence program in which White Auto Body refurbishes wrecked automobiles and gives them to a person who needs the transportation.
The Fashion Show featured a wide and fun variety of styles, with fashions by Bridal Connections, Chico’s, Eddie Bauer, Moss Boutique Clothes & Accessories, and Michele’s. There was something for every taste from jeans to sequins. The fashions co-chairs were Irene Viviano and Marie Quicke.
Delivering raffle gift baskets to lucky winners, were 12 young ladies from Hazelwood Central High School Community Service Program. Justin Haffer, Kent Haffer, and Jake Heskin escorted the models down the winding staircase onto the walkway. Most attending agreed that this year’s event was the best ever.
