A committee has been formed to begin raising money to help pay the hotel and transportation costs of the Hazelwood West Wildcats Marching band, which has been invited to represent the Greater St. Louis area at the annual Gator Bowl half-time show next January.
“Our group has one goal in mind,” said Gretchen Bangert, executive director of the Marching Wildcats Boosters Club. “That is to raise funds to help pay the hotel and transportation costs for the 105 members of the band, which is excited about representing our region in next year’s Toyota Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida,” Bangert said
The Marching Wildcats will host a series of fund-raising activities over the next nine months, including a fun Trivia Night on March 10 at the Hazelwood Community Center in Whitebirch Park, a golf tournament on June 2 at Old Fleurissant Golf Course, pizza sales and other activities.
Additionally, a corporate campaign will soon get underway to generate financial support from St. Louis area businesses, especially those based in the Florissant, Hazelwood and Bridgeton areas. Bangert said the boosters also are building a web site, which will be launched in the coming weeks.
The Hazelwood West High School marching band recently was invited to perform at the Gator Bowl’s half-time show next New Year’s Day by Terry Pittman, event director of Bowl Games of America. Pittman recently extended the invitation to Hazelwood West Band Director Aaron Jackson, who immediately accepted on behalf of the students.
“This is a wonderful honor and a credit to each member of the Hazelwood West Marching Band,” Jackson said. “The band is a disciplined, hard-working unit, and one of the largest in the St. Louis region. More importantly, the members are among the finest young people with whom I’ve ever been associated, and we’re very excited for them to be able to take part in this fantastic event, the Gator Bowl Band Festival.”
The Marching Wildcats consists of students, parents and friends working together to raise funds to send all members of the Hazelwood West Marching Band to Jacksonville, Florida on New Year’s Day 2008 to perform in the historic Gator Bowl’s half-time festivities.
At a recent meeting, parents elected Bangert executive director; Duane Till, vice chair; Lisa Clever, treasurer; Jacque Till, financial secretary; and, Jodi Schutzenhofer, secretary.
To make a contribution, checks can be made payable to the Marching Wildcats Boosters and mailed to P.O. Box 4149, Hazelwood, MO, 63042.
