Hazelwood West Boys Tennis Hosts

Class 2, District 5, Individual Sectional

Hazelwood West Boys Tennis is hosting Class Two, District Five beginning May 6 with the team tournament followed by individual district tournaments (singles and doubles competition), which could begin May 9 and must end by May 11.

Competing with Hazelwood West in District five are Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood East, McCluer North, McCluer and Ritenour. Each team must have at least four players to compete as a team in a best of nine matches (three in doubles and up to six in singles). As of 8 p.m. on April 29, there are no seedings and pairings and the team matches will be at West     or at the higher seeded sites.

The Class Two, District Five Team Champion will host Sectional Two on May 18 and will play against the team champion from District Six. Also competing at the team winner from District Five are team champions from Districts Seven and Eight. The Sectional semifinal winners will meet the same day in the Sectional Final for the right to advance to the State Team Tournament May 23, 9 a.m. at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.

Hazelwood West hosts Class Two, District Five individual competition as each of the schools assigned will send two singles players and two doubles team. The top two singles players and top two doubles teams in Class Two, District Five return to West at a date to be determined (May 13-15) to compete in Sectional Three against the District singles and doubles finalist from District Six (hosted by Francis Howell Central). It is a one round sectional and the two singles and doubles winners advance to the State Championships May 24-25 at Cooper Tennis Complex.

LUTHERAN NORTH will be playing in Class One, District Four and John Burroughs School will serve as hosts. Competing with Lutheran North at John Burroughs are Brentwood, Clayton, Soldan International Studies and University City. As of 2 p.m. on April 29,

As of 8 p.m. on April 29, there are no seedings and parings and the team tournament will be at Burroughs or at the higher seeded team sites. The Class One, District Four Champion will play against the winners from District Three in a Sectional One semifinal May 18 at the District One Champion, which plays the District Two Champion in the other semifinal. The Sectional Semifinal winners play the same day for the right to advance to the State Team Tournament, which begins at 9 a.m. May 23 at Cooper Tennis.

The District Four finalists in singles and doubles will advance to Class One, Sectional Two May 13-15 against the District Three finalists at Francis Park in St. Louis, just west of Bishop DuBourg High on Eichelberger Street. The Sectional Singles and Doubles winners advance to State, May 24-25 at Cooper.

BOYS GOLF — Four Metro Catholic Conference teams, separated by 12 strokes, advance from Class Four, District Two April 29 at Quail Creek Golf Course to Sectional One April 7 at Kimbeland Country Club, in Jackson. Automatically going to Sectional One are District champion Chaminade College Prep (314 strokes) and runner up St. Louis University High (319).
