Trinity Play its 1st Game of Season

Short Season 2-0; Trinity 0-1

Seven weeks of High School Football in Missouri are now over while St. Louis County just saw their first week being able to play after County Executive Dr. Sam Page allows fore games top play Oct. 7.
However, several St. Louis County high school football teams, including Lutheran North defied Dr. Page’s guidelines and play games in week six outside of the County. On the other hand, Trinity could not defy guideline by order of the Archdiocese of St. Louis
So last Friday, Oct. 9, Lutheran North, 2019 Class Two State Champions and Trinity, 2019 Class Three Semifinalist, not only played in St. Louis County but they both met at Trinity in Spanish Lake.

Lutheran North defeated Trinity 34-7, the third straight win for the Crusaders and are 16-2 against the Titans since Trinity opened in the fall of 2003 as the result of the merger of St. Thomas Aquinas-mercy and Rosary by now Cardinal Emeritus Justin Rigali, former St. Lois Archbishop
Lutheran North scored the games final 26 unanswered points in the final 25:05, outscoring Trinity 14-0 in the fourth quarter and 20-0 in the second half. Junior Toriano Pride, who rushed for a two-point conversion after the first of two touchdowns by junior Jaylin Carson with 1:33 left in the firs quarter, ran for three of the final four Crusader touchdowns. Lutheran North rushed the ball 47 times for 347 yards.
Pride who rushed 10 times for 118 yards, ran 77 yards for a Lutheran North Touchdown with 1:07 left in the first half, two-point conversion failed, as the Crusaders took a 14-7 lead at halftime. Pride scored with 1:53 left in the third quarter after Lutheran North blocked a Trinity Field goal attempt and finished scoring with 1:03 left in the game. Carson added his second touchdowns 1:47 into the fourth quarter. Trinity’s only score was a one-yard touchdown pass from sophomore Christian Cotton to senior Malcolm Harvey, and an Aaron Brady extra point.
While Trinity had to wait for Dr. Page’s clearance, Lutheran North played week six in St. Charles County, at Francis Howell High School in Weldon Spring on Oct. 3. The Crusade3res were a last minute replacement for Parkway West, whose original opponent (Washington-St. Francis Borgia) cancelled due to COVID-19 (coronavirus). The Crusaders won their opener 34-6 over the now 0-2 Longhorns. It was the third of three games played at Howell by all four Parkway School District high schools, Lutheran North and Seckman (Jefferson County-Imperial).
Lutheran North dominated the first and third quarters by outscoring Parkway West 27-0. Junior Makai Parton not only ran for a two-point conversion after his third-quarter rushing touchdown, with 1”:22 left but also ran in for two more conversions, after a first quarter run by senior Chris Childs the second, a third quarter touchdown pass form junior Brian Brown to junior Aleem Glass.
Senior Jacob Fuller kicked a 36-yard Field Goal with 1:29 to go in the first quarter and added an extra point after a second-quarter rushing touchdown of 37 yards by Ali Wells. In two games Wells, a junior, ran the ball 31 times for 274 yards (18 carries against Trinity and 144 yards against Parkway West). Senior Terrance Fuller made 11 tackles against Parkway West, including five quarterback sacks.
   BOYS SOCCER — Lutheran North (2-3 prior to Oct. 13) won at Trinity Oct. 1 on Penalty kicks for only the third Crusader win in 12 games against the Titans. Lutheran North goalkeepers made 22 saves, including 20 by senior Zach Molden in 90 minutes. Four days later (Oct. 5) the Crusaders won at home 5-2 over Farmington-St. Paul Lutheran as junior Drew Keathley scores two goals while sophomore Caleb Fuller, junior Timothy Roth and senior Alex Uttley each netted one.
   GIRLS VOLLEYBALL — Trinity Catholic (2-3 prior to Oct. 12) split two matches with Notre Dame (St. Louis) each winning at home. Notre Dame won two-sets to one Sept 30 while Trinity won three sets to two Oct. 8, winning the fifth set 25-23 Trinity won the opener at home Sept. 28 over Lutheran North 3-0, as the Titans are 13-7 against the Crusaders.
   INCARNATE WORD ACADEMY— Tennis players Grace G. Brown and Erin L. Coleman advance to Class Two State Doubles Thursday-Saturday COVID-19 permitting) at Cooper Tennis Complex, Springfield, after winning District Three at Mary Institute-Country Day School. Playing Districts are Girls Golf (Cass Two, District One), Oct. 12, and Softball (Class Four, District Two), which began Oct. 13.
