MSHSAA Releases Next 2 Years Football, Basketball Districts

By Jim Wieners

The Missouri State High School Activities Association has released the new classification and district assignments for the next two years (2014-15 and 2015-16) of Football and Basketball (Boys and Girls) within the last two weeks.

Classifications are based on student enrollment with private co-ed schools adjusted using a 1.35 multiplier and single-gender schools (all boys or all girls), usually private, have their enrollments doubled before adding the 1.35 multiplier. There are six classes of 11-man Football and five classes of Boys Basketball and five classes of Girls Basketball.

According to the MSHSAA the largest 32 schools will be in Class Six Football, eight per district. Then the lowest four classes of Football are determined with the smallest 64 schools assigned to Class One and the next 64 schools each determine the next three classes, eight per district. Class Five gets whatever is left and MSHSAA has determined that Class Five has 53 schools in seven- or six-team districts.

In Basketball, according to the MSHSAA the smallest 129 schools are in Class One, the next smallest 127 are in Class Two, the next smallest 129 in Class Three and the next smallest 96 are in Class Four (actually there are 100 with at least four more girls teams). The remaining number of schools is assigned to Class Five and there are 79 of the largest schools in state.

District assignments and classification in each sport are based on geographical location, according to the MSHSAA.
