City’s Historic Sites Open Dec. 16
Celebrate Christmas in Old Town Florissant as some of the city’s most historic sites open their doors on Dec. 16.
The Gittemieir House at 1067 Dunn Road (above photo) will be open from 1 – 4:30 p.m. German Christmas customs will be featured and light refreshments will be served. Mrs. Claus will be at the house from 2 – 4. Children can write a letter to Santa for Mrs. Claus to deliver.
Taille de Noyer, on the McCluer High School campus, will also be open from 1 – 4:30 p.m. The home will be beautifully decorated with German decorations. Refreshments will be served.
St. Ferdinand Shrine will host the Annual Christmas Concert from 5 – 6:30 p.m. The concert will feature the choris fo the Academy of the Sacred Heart, The Sacred Heart Organ Choir, and the Combined Choirs of the Florissant Valley Baptist Church, St. Sabina Catholic Church, and Florissant Presbyterian Church. The church will be lit by candlelight and decorated in early French style. There is no charge and refreshments will be served in the schoolhouse after the concert.
New this year is the Christmas Novena. This is offered in conjunction with Sacred Heart, St. Ferdinand, and St. Angela Merici parishes. The novena will begin at 7 p.m. Dec. 16 and continue for seven evenings ending Sunday, Dec. 23.
