Boundary Commission Report Shows Only 2 Wards Gained Residents

By Carol Arnett

The Florissant City Council heard the results of the Boundary Commission’s study of the city ward boundaries at the last council meeting. Susan Geerling presented the Commission’s recommendations.

The boundaries need to be changed because the population in various wards has changed due to annexations.  Wards 4 and 8 have gained residents, so sections of those wards will go to the  other wards.

Geerling said the commission tried to set the boundaries in a way that kept neighborhoods together. The council held a first reading on the bill that would change the boundaries. The council can change the commission’s recommendations before passing the bill.

In other action, the council held a first reading on a bill that would allow taverns, cocktail lounges and nightclubs by Special Use Permit only.

This would require these businesses to come before the council to be approved. They are currently designated as a permit uses, which means they can go into certain zoning codes without council approval. The council held a public hearing on the matter after city staff recommended the change.
