Hazelwood East, who has rebounded from a 1-5 start to a three-game winning streak, has won two Class Five, District Three games to assure themselves a post-season playoff spot for the third straight year.

Now the Spartans (4-5) are trying to win their third straight district title and their third straight Regional Round Bye when they travel to Normandy High’s newly remodeled Viking Field Oct. 30 for a 1 p.m. game.

East (2-0 +26 district play) can clinch a third straight district title with a win or a Riverview Gardens win Oct. 30, 1 p.m. at home against McCluer provided East loses by no more than 12 points or Riverview wins by no more than 12 points.  A District title means having a Regional round bye and will play a Nov. 8, 7 p.m. Class Five Sectional game, neutral site to be announced, against the runner up in District Two or the runner up in District Three A loss to Normandy (3-6 overall, 1-1 +0 district) and a McCluer win or by losing by at least 13 points and a Riverview win by at least 13 means East plays a Nov. 3, 7 p.m. Regional game against the District Two runner up, probably Chaminade, with the winner to play Normandy Nov. 8.

Normandy can clinch a district runner up spot with a win by or no more than 12 points if Riverview’s winning margin is at least one point less than Normandy. The Vikings can also gain a regional spot with a loss provided that McCluer wins by one less point than Normandy loses to East and that McCluer wins by no more than 12.

Riverview (2-7 overall, 1-1 +0 district) can not win the district title but can get second place with a win and a Normandy loss. Riverview can also clinch a regional round if Normandy wins provided Riverview’s margin of victory is one more point than Normandy and the Vikings win by no more than 12 points. The Rams can also qualify with a loss provided  the Rams lose by one less point than Normandy or if Riverview loses by 12 and Normandy loses by 13.

McCluer (1-8 overall, 0-2 -26 district) is eliminated from post-season play. East won their final two Suburban North games (4-3 SNC) over McCluer, 51-33, and Riverview, 54-6. Meanwhile Riverview (1-5 SNC) was a 38-14 winner over Normandy, who won 40-21 over McCluer (1-5 SNC).

CLASS SIX, DISTRICT FOUR HAZELWOOD CENTRAL (9-0) has already clinched a district title (2-0) and the Suburban North Conference title (6-0) thanks to wins over McCluer North, 28-21, and Ritenour, 50-15. The Hawks make an Oct. 30, 1 p.m. visit to Hazelwood West, then will host the Sectional game Nov. 6 against the District Three runner up, probably Rockwood-Marquette.

Meanwhile McCluer North (6-2, 5-1 SNC, 1-1 District) hosts Ritenour (5-4, 2-4 SNC, 1-1 District) Oct. 30 with the winner to visit the District Three Champion, most likely CBC, Nov. 5. McCluer North’s 39-8 win and Ritenour’s 20-13 double-overtime win eliminated Hazelwood West (1-8, 1-5 SNC, 0-2 District).

CLASS THREE, DISTRICT FOUR — All four teams are 1-1 in district play as Trinity Catholic (6-3, 3-2 AAA) visits Cardinal Ritter (7-2, 5-1 AAA), Oct. 29, 7 p.m., and Lutheran North (4-5) visits McCluer South-Berkeley (5-4), Oct. 30, 1 p.m. The two winners will play John Burroughs or Priory and the head-to-head tiebreaker decides the District Four title. Trinity defeated MS-Berkeley, 30-28, Ritter defeated Lutheran North, 21-8, MS-Berkeley defeated Ritter, 15-14 and Lutheran North defeated Trinity, 44-13.
