Florissant’s 2020 Veteran of the Year is Lucia Greer

38-Year Career Air Force M/Sgt. Lucia Greer: Florissant Veteran of the Year

Greer will be honored with two other Veterans on Nov. 8

Lucia Greer, a retired Air Force Chief Master Sergeant who served 25 active duty years and 13 years reserve service (a total of 38 years of service) is the Florissant Veteran of the Year.
She will be honored at a Veterans Day program on Sunday No. 8 at 3 p.m. at VFW Post 4105 in Old Town Florissant. Prior to the ceremony there will be a breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon. Monetary donations are welcome and at 2:50 p.m. there will be a brief POW/MIA Ceremony. Mann Meats BBQ will be providing dinner after the ceremony. Also, on that day Walt Kaiser and David Miller will be recognized as the VFW Post 4105’s first Legacy Life Gold members.  The MO VFW State Commander Eric Sullivan will be presenting the Legacy Life Gold member award and the VFW National Senior Vice Commander Matthew “Fritz” Mihelcic will presenting the Veteran of the Year award.

The second Sunday in November is normally the date for the Florissant Veteran’s Day parade which has been cancelled because of the COVID 19 virus.
Chief Greer is the recipient of severall award and honors during her Air Force career.. She began her career in 1980 enlisting in the Reserves as an aircraft electrician assigned to Norton AFB, CA. After six years in aircraft maintenance she transitioned to Logistics Plans and Programs in the Air National Guard while pursuing a civilian career with McDonnell Douglas as an associate Logistics Engineer on the AV-8B and F-15.
As Dessert Shield began in 1990, she accepted an active duty tour first working at HQ Military Airlift Command as a contingency logistics controller and then training to be a C-141 Flight Engineer flying missions in Dessert Storm.
At the end of this tour she returned to McDonnell Douglas working on the delivery and reliability testing of the C-17 at Charleston AFB. Following this, she returned to active duty flying worldwide C-141 missions for embassy support, as well as contingency and humanitarian and aeromedical evacuation missions in five foreign conflicts. When the C-141 retired from inventory Chief Greer transitioned back to the logistics plans career.
Throughout her career Chief Greer would augment the Tanker Airlift Control Center and HQ AMC numerous times for various contingencies including, several hurricane and earthquake reliefs efforts 9-11 Response, Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
