Last year Hazelwood Central Girls Track And Field scored a Missouri State High School Activities Association best 76 points in a state meet but the Hawks had to settle for second place as Lee’s Summit West won the Class Five State title with 96.
This Friday-Saturday, May 26-27 Hazelwood Central Girls return to the Licklider Track & Field Complex, inside Pete Adkins Stadium at Jefferson City High, to get what they won in 1987, 1988 and 2013 win State with fewer points than last year.. Running events begin each day at 10:30 a.m. while field events begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.
HAZELWOOD CENTRAL GIRLS are coming off wins in the Suburban XII Conference (May 4 at Kirkwood High), Class Five, District Three (May 13 at Parkway Central) and Class Five, Sectional Two (May 20 at Montgomery County). The Hawk women will send six to compete in seven individual events including district and sectional champions Shauniece O’Neal (Sr.-Discus and Shot Put), Deja Ingram (Jr.-100 Meter Dash, 200 Meter Dash) and Danielle Frank (So.-400 Meter Dash). Junior Taylor Ramsey won District in High Jump but qualified for state by finishing second in state while the 4×200 Meter Relay team is coming off District and Sectional titles.
HAZELWOOD CENTRAL BOYS send two individuals in two separate events each as well as two relay teams. Winning district and sectional titles are senior Edward Becton (Shot Put) and the 4×200 Meter Relay team.
HAZELWOOD WEST will have four boys in five individual events and three relay teams after winning Class Five, District Three and taking second in Sectional Two. Meanwhile the Girls will compete in three relay events and qualify junior Querene Muleba in the 400 Meter Dash. District and Sectional champions include freshmen Aaron Holmes (300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles) and Justin Robinson (400 Meter Dash), Boys 4×800 and 4×400 Meter Relays and Girls 4×400 Meter Relay. Holmes won District Three in the 110 Meter High Hurdles and qualified for state after finishing second in Sectional Two.
McCLUER NORTH will have three boys and a girl in individual competition while sending two boys and two girls relay teams. District and Sectional winners include sophomore Lance Lang (100 and 200 Meter Dashes) and freshman Michelle Owens (100 Meter High Hurdles). Senior Clinton Heffner won District Three and placed second in Sectional Two in the 3,200-Meter Run while after taking second in District Three the Girls 4×100 Meter Relay won Sectional Two
HAZELWOOD EAST will send two boys to compete individually as well as the boys 4×400 Meter Relay and Girls 4×100 Meter Relay. Junior Mathew White will compete in the 800-Meter run after finishing second in District Three and winning Sectional Two.
CLASS THREE–North Tech will send senior Demorris Buford, junior Jessica Meyers and sophomore LaNai Johnson to state as well as the Boys and Girls 4×200 Meter Relays, the Girls 4×100 Meter Relay and the Boys 4×400 Meter Relay. Trinity Catholic will send sophomores Isaiah Williams as well as DeAyvion Smith, freshman Teriyon Cooper, the Boys and Girls 4×200 Meter Relays and the Boys 4×100 Meter Relay
NORTH TECH — Buford won District Three (at Lutheran North) in the Boys 400 Meter Dash and qualified for state in that event by taking third place in Sectional Two at Montgomery County.
TRINITY CATHOLIC — Smith won District Three (at Lutheran North) and Sectional Two (at Montgomery County) in the Girls 400 Meter Dash while in the High Jump she won District Three and took fourth place in Sectional Two.
