Incarnate Soccer Seeking 36-Peat

Girls’ Soccer at Incarnate Word Academy has not lost a district game in the last 35 years and the last 33 teams since the Missouri State High School Activities Association sanctioned the state championships (in 1984).

This season, IWA is looking for their 34th consecutive MSHSAA District title, their 36th in a row overall. In addition, the Red Knights, holders of an MSHSAA-record state are looking to win their 10th, and their first since 2009.

IWA begins their 36-Peat (34 in the MSHSAA) as a top seed Class Three, District Six at home May 15 with a 4 p.m. game against Riverview Gardens. After the Red Knights play the fourth-seeded Rams, second-seeded University City meets third-seeded McCluer High at IWA at 5:30. Winners return to Incarnate May 17 for a 4 p.m. district final and that winner hosts the May 22 Sectional against the Class Three, District Five Champion.

Prior to May 7 Incarnate was 16-5 overall and 3-2 in the Midwest Women’s Athletic Association, with a 4 p.m. Game, Thursday, May 10, at Cor Jesu.

   CLASS FOUR, DISTRICT TWO — At Florissant (James Eagan) Civic Center Park, Hazelwood Central is the top seed in the district and will play fourth-seeded Hazelwood East May 15 at 4 p.m. Tournament host and defending district champion McCluer North follows as the second seed and will play at Eagan in a 6 p.m. game against third-seeded Ritenour. May 15 winners return to Eagan May 17 for the district title and the winner hosts the May 22 Sectional against the District One Champions.

Before districts Hazelwood Central (10-8-2, 4-1 Suburban XII Conference, North Division) visits Hazelwood West Thursday at 4 p.m.

   CLASS FOUR, DISTRICT THREE — Hazelwood West, 10-8-1 overall and 3-0 in the Suburban XII North prior to May 7, is the fourth seed and will open May 15 with a 5 p.m. game against top-seed and defending district champion Francis Howell Central. That game will played at third seeded Francis Howell North, which follows at 7 p.m. against second-seeded Pattonville. Francis Howell North hosts the district final May 17 at 6 p.m. with the district champion playing at the District Four winner on May 22.

State Quarterfinals for Classes Three and Four will be on May 26, at sites to be determined. State Semifinals, third-place and Championship games will be on June 1-2 at Swope Soccer Village, Kansas City.

CLASS TWO, DISTRICT FIVE — North Technical is hosting a district Girls Soccer Tournament for the first time and the Golden Eagles will be the four seed and open May 14 in a 3:30 game against defending district champion Lutheran North. Archrivals McCluer South-Berkeley (two seed) and Jennings (three seed) visits North Technical the same day for a 5 p.m. game. The two winners return to North Tech May 16 for a district championship game at 4 p.m.

The Class Two, District Five champion plays at the District Six champion in a May 19 Sectional. That winner plays in the May 23 Quarterfinal. Lutheran North is seeking their eighth consecutive district title and their first-ever Sectional win.

   CLASS ONE, DISTRICT THREE — This district, unlike others, have five teams and Trinity Catholic hosts this district, which begins May 14 with a 4 p.m. St. Louis Public Schools battle between fourth-seeded Sumner and fifth-seeded Northwest Academy of Law. Top-seeded and defending district champion Trinity Catholic plays Sumner or Northwest May 15 at 6 p.m., after second-seeded Crossroads College Prep plays third-seeded Collegiate School of Medicine-Bioscience (a St. Louis Public School) at 4 p.m. The May 15 winners return to Trinity May 16 for a 6 p.m. district final and that winner plays at the District Four winner in a May 23 State Quarterfinal.

Trinity which opened in the fall of 2003 at the former Rosary High and merged with St. Thomas Aquinas-Mercy, has won three consecutive district titles, all in Class One, and 10 since the spring of 2004 (their inaugural year). Trinity is looking for their first title in all sports.

The Classes One and Two State Semifinals, third-place and Championship games will be on May 31-31 at Swope Soccer Village.
