Festival for the Young Child will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. 2 p.m., at the James J. Eagan Center, # 1 James J. Eagan Drive . The festival is a free event sponsored by the Ferguson-Florissant School District’s Early Education Department and the City of Florissant.

Parents bring your children and enjoy a fun-filled day. Learn about activities you can do with your child at home. Find out about community and social services that are available for you and your child. Register for attendance prizes and enjoy the festivities.

The Missouri Masonic Children’s Foundation/Beacon Lodge #3/37 Masonic District has joined with Ferguson-Florissant School District’s Parents as Teachers program to bring the Missouri Child Identification Program (MOCHIP) to the Festival for the Young Child this year.

MOCHIP is a comprehensive child identification program designed to give families some protection against the potential problem of missing and abducted children. Parents hope they will never have their child abducted or go missing. However, it never hurts to be prepared just in case. MOCHIP will help parents be prepared free of charge.

The program consists of five major components: Digital Photographs and fingerprints; child information and emergency contacts; dental bite impression; and two laminated ID cards. This five component powerful identification tool is given to the parent or guardian of the child on a mini-CD computer disk. The information on the disk is compatible with the format required by the “Amber Alert” program.

The dental bite impression provides an impression of the biting surface of the child’s teeth which is unique to each child. The dental impression also collects enough saliva to provide a DNA sample and a source for a scent for trained canine search and recovery teams.

Safety is another featured attraction at the Festival for the Young Child. Get car seats checked by Safe Kids St. Louis. Parents will learn about poison control, drug prevention, teaching children how to call 9-1-1, how to prevent child abuse and how to properly fit a bicycle helmet. Bicycle helmets will be for sale for $5.00.

Children will enjoy pony rides (11:00 – 1:00), Fredbird and other costumed characters, face painting, inflatable castle, live animals, and much more. Each child will receive a free book.
