Lutheran North Boys Track Wins

Lutheran High School North shined under the lights of Centene Stadium in Clayton, at the city limits of University City on Gay Avenue, as the Boys Track And Field Team won the Blue Division of the Clayton Marion Freeman Meet.

Lutheran North dominated the meet by scoring 126 points. That is 48 points better than runner up John Burroughs (78) and is 55 better than McCluer South-Berkeley (71), which took third. Lutheran North Boys won three meets at home including the home opener March 19, the LHSN Relays April 12 and the Metro League meet April 16. LHSN hosts and All-Comers Meet, May 7, and Class Three, District Two, May 11.

Senior Joshua Hopkins won the 200-Meter Dash, with a sprint of 22.33 seconds, and the Long Jump, with a leap of 21’1”. Hopkins finished third in the Triple Jump (37’10”). Junior Jalik Smith won the Triple Jump with a hop, skip and jump of 42’3.5” while finishing second to Hopkins in the Long Jump (20’3”).

Hopkins, Jalik Smith, junior Cameron Griffin and junior Jordan Smith won the 4×200-Merer Relay in 1:322.07. Finishing second among relay teams include the 4×400-Meters (Griffin, Junior Jakobe Hopkins, sophomore Jordynn Parker, Jordan Smith) (3:34.98) and the 4×800-Meter Relay (senior Joseph Jolly, senior Secondo Kaka, Griffin and senior Issac Stout) (8:55.87).

LUTHERAN NORTH GIRLS — After winning their Home Opener March 19, their Relay Meet April 12 and the Metro League Meet at home April16; the Lutheran North Girls took second April 24 in the Girls Invite at Petersen Memorial Track surrounding the Bill Lamothe Football Field.

Lutheran North Girls — which hosts and All-Comers Meet May 7 and Class Three, District Two, May 11 — scored 137 points but finished 26 points behind Cor Jesu (163), Class Five, District Three School. LHSN finished 58 points ahead of Class Four, District Five University City (79) and 70 ahead of Class Five, District Four McCluer North (67).

Lutheran North won three of the four relays — 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 Meters — while not competing in the 4×800 Meters. Senior Jordyn White, Senior Siyanbola Animashaun, Junior Toni McConnell and senior Leah Hodges won the 4×100 -Meter Relay in 51.78 seconds. McConnell, Hodges, junior Makayla Williams and sophomore Taleah Dilworth won the 4×200-Meter Relay in 1:52.26. Dilworth, Hodges, McConnell and Williams won the 4×400-Meter Relay in 4:26.66, about 3.09 seconds better than runner up Cor Jesu (4:29.75).

White won the Long Jump, with a 15’11.5” leap, and the Triple Jump, with a hop, skip and a jump of 34’6.5”. Sophomore Olivia Smith won the Shot Put with a 29’3.5 “ heave over     McCluer North sophomore Kaitlyn Brown (27’8.5”), who won the Discus (96’4.5”) over Smith (95’10”), who took second in the Javelin (62’3”).to Cor Jesu Sophomore Katherine Noonan (71’6”). Senior Kyndall Oliver took second in the 300-Meter Hurdles (52.27 seconds) to Cor Jesu junior Mary Hruz (51.33 seconds).

CLASS THREE DISTRICTS — Luthe4ran North hosts Class Three, District Two, a 12-team district that includes Cardinal Ritter College Prep (defending Class Three Boys State Champion and Girls State Runner Up). Elsewhere, Trinity Catholic, Class Two Boys State Runner Up and Girls Third Place Finishers, North Tech and McCluer South-Berkeley are in Class Two, District Four at Christian High in O’Fallon and that 12 team District contains defending Girls State Champion John Burroughs. The top four finishers in the 19 boys and girls events advance to the May 18 Sectionals (District Two to Sectional One at Hillsboro, District Three to Sectional Two at Montgomery County High).

CLASS FOUR, DISTRICT FIVE — Hazelwood East, Incarnate Word Academy, Jennings, McCluer and Riverview Gardens will compete in a 12-team district, including three all-girls team, May 11 at Mary Institute-Country Day School. The top four finishers in each event advance to Sectional May 18 at Montgomery County High.

CLASS FIVE, DISTRICT FOUR — Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood West and McCluer North will be in a nine-team district, including DeSmet Jesuit May 11 at Pattonville Stadium. The top four finishers in each event will advance to Sectional Two, May 18 at Lafayette in Wildwood. STATE — The top four finishers in each Sectional event compete May 24-25 at Jefferson City High.
