Boys Wrestling Districts Set
Feb. 14-15, Girls District 2 Feb. 7-8

High School Wrestling Districts for Boys will take place on Feb. 14-15, a week after the Girls compete on Feb. 7-8. Weigh-ins begins at 4 p.m. Feb. 7, 14 and 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 8, 15. Meets start at 5 p.m. Feb. 7, 14 and 10 a.m. Feb. 8, 15.
The top four wrestlers in each weight class (14 Boys, 12 Girls) advance to the Missouri State Championships Feb. 20-22 at Mizzou Arena, University of Missouri in Columbia.
Two Hazelwood District High School teams, from Central and West will compete in Class Four, District Two at Francis Howell High School in Weldon Spring. This 15-team district includes Chaminade College Prep, DeSmet Jesuit and St. Louis University High.
Hazelwood East along with two Ferguson Florissant High School teams from McCluer North and McCluer will compete in a 16-team Class Three, District Two tournament at St. Charles High School. STEAM Academy at McCluer South-Berkeley will be among 15 teams in Class One, District One at Whitfield, defending three-peat State Champions eight overall since 2008.
Girls Wrestling will be in one class this year and could go to at least two classes. McCluer North, fourth place in state last year, is among 45 teams in District Two Friday-Saturday at Wentzville-Holt High. Two other Ferguson Florissant District High School teams from McCluer and STEAM Academy at McCluer South-Berkeley will join the Stars as well as two Hazelwood School District teams from Central and East (West does not have Girls Wrestling).
McCluer North Boys junior Ibrahim Ameer, who finished sixth, last year in Class Four at 170 pounds, will likely compete in Class Three at 195. Ameer, the only state medallist among Florissant Valley area high schools last year, is 27-0 prior to Feb. 3 and won five tournaments. McCluer North met Eureka Feb. 5 in the Annex Gym (Formerly Florissant Junior High) wrestles Thursday, Feb. 6, 5 p.m. at Francis Howell.
McCluer Boys hosted a Tri Meet against two Parkway District teams, North and West, Feb. 3 in the M-1 Gym, and visited Ladue Horton Watkins for a quad meet Feb.4 That quad meet included Hazelwood West, which wrestles Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Seckman Tournament in Imperial. STEAM Academy-MSB hosts a Boys Tri Meet against John Burroughs and Left for Life Academy Charter Thursday, Feb. 6 at 5:30.
McCluer North Girls junior Natalie Schaljo, state runner up at 131 last year is 23-8 prior to Feb. 5, against Eureka in the Annex Gym, competed at 125 in her last 23 matches through Feb. 1 and won tournament titles at Mehlville (130) and the Washington Iron Jay. Senior Paige Folkner, fourth in state at 121, is 12-0 through Dec. 14, 2019, was 7-0 at John Burroughs and there are no results after Dec. 14. Junior Elizabeth Cosentino, fourth in District Two at 152 but did not qualify for state, is 30-8 prior to Feb. 5, was 7-0 at 152 at John Burroughs but is wrestling at 142 after that going 3-0 at Summit and winning the Washington Iron Jay Tournament.
