Some Fans Disappointed That Rams Weren’t Blown Out of Super Bowl

It is hard to believe that the Super Bowl ended up with the fewest points ever scored. With two teams like the Patriots and Rams that are offensive powerhouses, I thought it would be at least 50 combined total points. I have talked to a lot of people from St. Louis who were rooting against the Rams and they were not just rooting against them, but passionately hoping they were blown off the field.

To break down the game, neither team looked like themselves at all. It seemed like the Rams could not make any kind of adjustments to the Patriots’ defense. For a coach that was supposed to be an offensive genius and the Rams’ head coach, he was coached off the field by Bill Belichick. The Patriots did just enough to win. That game came down to one or two plays and a few penalties that sealed the fate.

What was up with Todd Gurley? I think he was hurt worse than was talked about. He was under utilized in the last two games and then could not get things going. There were a few times when QB Jared Goff threw the ball over the middle on a quick slant and the Rams were successful, but that was about it. They could not throw deep and they could not get a running game going at all.

At times, I felt sorry for them. Everyone is saying that they will be back but with Goff’s rookie contract, which allowed them to pay higher for some one-year players. I don’t see it happening. On the positive side, they won enough games to put people in the seats at the new stadium.

Seventeen years ago, I stood in the end zone in New Orleans and watched Brady beat the Rams in the second half; this year I sat on the couch and watched Brady do the same thing again. Although, I would say Brady was definitely not as big of a part of the game this year but he did do enough to win. Congratulations to a team that whether you love them or hate them, they win.

I guess I am getting older in many ways, besides turning 50. My sense of what connects with me has really changed. Watching the Super Bowl commercials just wasn’t that exciting this year, not many really stood out to me except the one where the lady was yelling at people in the backseat about pulling the car over. I think every parent can relate to that scenario. It was an M&M commercial but left you guessing to the end.

There is so much news about football coming to St. Louis over the next year or so, I don’t have enough space to write about it. I will dive into it next week but how about the news or rumors of Kansas City becoming Missouri’s team? Interesting? Somehow I don’t think that the Chiefs fans would let that happen. Interesting though. There are a lot of St. Louis fans that have turned into Chiefs fans but there are also a lot of St. Louisans that hate the Kansas City Chiefs football team. With Mahommes as their future QB, the Chiefs have a bright future ahead of them.

If you ate too much at the Super Bowl party, time to work it off. I read an article where it said that the average human ingests more calories on this day than any other all year round. This is just another reason we need the game to be on a Saturday, so we can sleep in and then exercise it off.
