Hazelwood East Football Rebounds

From Week 3 Loss With Week 4 Win

After opening the 2018 Football season with wins over University City, Hazelwood East lost week three at Lindbergh, 24-14, on Sept. 7. However East won week four over Riverview Gardens, 56-18 Sept. 15 at Hazelwood West. It was rescheduled from Sept. 14, then Sept. 13 at Lindenwood University in St. Charles. In addition, it was the Suburban XII North Conference opener for East (3-1, 1-0) and Riverview (0-4, 0-1).

Senior quarterback Torre Dyson did all the scoring for the Spartans against Lindbergh, and all of it was in the second quarter. Dyson completed 12 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown, and then ran for a touchdown and a two-point conversion.

Against Riverview, East broke an 18-18 halftime tie with 38 unanswered points including 30 in the fourth quarter. Dyson completed nine passes for 115 and two touchdowns ran for a third-quarter touchdown and ran in for four two-point conversions. Freshman Armon Hill rushed for 93 yards and two Spartan touchdowns while Senior Maurice Chavers rushed the ball for 105 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown.

Homecoming games will be on the Spartan schedule the next two weeks. Saturday, Sept. 22, at12 noon East will be at Hazelwood Central’s Homecoming. On Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. East has their own Homecoming game against McCluer North.

TRINITY CATHOLIC — After losing 42-14 Aug. 25 in Norman Park, Ga., to 5-0 Colquitt County and 32-26 in triple overtime Sept. 1 at 3-1 East St. Louis, Ill. — Trinity responded by winning two Archdiocesan Athletic Association Small Division Games. The Titans won 36-6 at home in the rain and slop over Bishop DuBourg then went to O’Fallon, Mo., for a 56-6 rout at Living Word Christian.

Against DuBourg, six Titans contributed to five touchdowns, two extra points (senior Marcus Washington-with a touchdown) and a two-point conversion. Against O’Fallon Christian senior quarterback Isaiah Williams completed nine passes for 196 yards and four first half touchdowns including three in the first quarter. Senior Alphonzo Andrew rushed for 112 yards and a first-quarter touchdown while junior James Frenchie rushed for two more score.

Trinity (2-2, 2-0 AAA) wraps up AAA Small Division play the next two Fridays at 7 p.m. The Titans host Duchesne Sept. 21 then head to St. Peters for a Sept. 28 game against Lutheran St. Charles County.

HAZELWOOD CENTRAL — After starting 1-2 I in nonconference games, the Hawks open Suburban XII North play with a 15-12 win Sept. 17 at Hazelwood West, a game originally scheduled for Sept. 13 at Lindenwood. After spotting West a 12-0 first quarter lead, the Hawks cut the deficit to four on a touchdown pass and a two-point conversion pass from senior quarterback Sean Stephens to junior Kayden Jackson. Stephens threw the game winning pass,

The Hawks lost 28-6 Sept. at Eureka, moved from Central due to a tropical system named Gordon. The Hawks (2-2, 1-0 Suburban XII North) have homecoming Saturday, 12 noon against Hazelwood East, then travel to McCluer Sept. 29 for another 12 noon game. 28 yards, to senior Jordan Tate, with 7:33 left in the fourth quarter

McCLUER NORTH is 2-2 after a 41-0 home shut out of McCluer Sept. 15 in the Suburban XII North opener for the Stars (2-2, 1-0 Suburban XII North) and the Comets (0-4, 0-1), which has no points in four games. Eight McCluer North players contributed to sis touchdowns for the Stars, which led 27-0 at halftime. The Stars lost 19-7 Sept. 7 at Parkway South, moved from North due to Gordon.

McCluer North visits Riverview Gardens Saturday at 12 noon then heads to Hazelwood East’s homecoming Sept. 29 at 1 p.m.

HAZELWOOD WEST — The Wildcats lost 19-18 Sept. 7 at Mehlville, moved from West due to Gordon. The Wildcats outscored Mehlville 12-7 in the second half but could not overcome a 12-6 Panther halftime lead. West could not hold on to a 12-0 lead in the 15-12 home loss Sept. 17 to Hazelwood Central.

Hazelwood West (2-2, 0-1 Suburban XII North) will remain at home the next two Saturdays for 1 p.m. games. The Wildcats host McCluer Sept. 22 and Riverview Gardens Sept. 29.
