Christian Brothers College High Won the Class Six State Football Championship Nov. 18 over Blue Springs High School, 31-14 at Missouri State University’s Plaster Stadium in Springfield.It was CBC’s second state football title in school history. The Cadets defeated Kansas City-Rockhurst 31-24 on Nov. 29, 2014.
Blue Springs, which has won five State titles, finished second in school history. In 2009 Hazelwood Central won their second consecutive state title 35-24, avenging a 2003 Blue Springs 53-0 rout.
Bryan Bradford, which scored first on a two-yard run in the second quarter for a 7-0 Cadet lead at halftime, sealed the Cadets title with touchdown runs of four and six yards in the final 4:18 of the fourth quarter.. Bradford had 127 all-purpose yards including 123 rushing on 29 carries.
Brett Gabbert completed 15 out of 22 passes for 144 yards. Dylan McGraw, which made four extra point attempts, kicked a fourth-quarter field goal from 20 yards, the usual sport for the extra point. Carson Buddemey through a 53-yard touchdown pass to Julian Williams with 3:52 left in the third quarter to give the Cadets a 17-6 lead.
Aveion Bailey did most of the scoring for Blue Springs. Bailey, who had 173 yards rushing on 23 carries, scored a touchdown from 34 yards out with 10:41 left in the third quarter but Samuel Knowlton missed the extra point. Bailey ran in the two-point conversion with 9:12 left in the fourth quarter after a 29-yard touchdown run by Cade Musser, who had 173 all purpose yards, to cut the Cadet lead to 17-14.
CBC 27, EUREKA 7 — The Cadets won the Nov. 10 semifinal at previously unbeaten Eureka as Gabbert 17 out of 25 passes for 279 yards and three touchdowns including a third quarter pass to Julian Williams, whop caught nine passes for 104 yards. Bradford rushed for 124 yards on 34 carries and a fourth-quarter Touchdown while Hassan Haskins led Eureka with 125 yards rushing on 32 carries.
CLASS SIX, DISTRICT TWO — CBC won their fourth consecutive title by defeating McCluer North (55-0), Rockwood Summit (49-0) and Hazelwood Central (48-20) CBC finished with a 13-1 record losing only to Christian Brothers of Memphis, Tenn.,36-27 in Memphis on Aug. 25.
CLASS FIVE — Pattonville ousted last years state finalists Champion St, John Vianney and Runner Up Fort Zumwalt North and the 9-3 Pirates play Saturday, Nov. 25 against 13-0 Staley in a 7 p.m. Final at the University of Missouri’s Faurot Field in Columbia. Both are in their second state finals as Pattonville lost to Rockhurst in 2000 while Staley defeated Kirkwood in 2011.
Pattonville avenged a 42-28 loss Aug. 18 to St. John Vianney with a 34-27 Quarterfinal win Nov. 10 at Vianney. David Ellison Jr., who rushed for 213 yards on 14 carries and three touchdowns, broke a 27-27 tie with 36 seconds in the fourth quarter on a 97-yard pass play to Dakari Streeter.
Pattonville outscored Vianney 20-6 in the second half including a 13-6 fourth quarter after Vianney led 14-7 at halftime. Kyren Williams threw three Vianney touchdown passes to Tionne Harris.
Pattonville returned home to knock out previously unbeaten Fort Zumwalt North 26-7 Nov. 18 at Pattonville Stadium. Pattonville spotted Fort Zumwalt North a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a Jack Ederer to Jacob Triplett touchdown pass. Ederer completed 10 out of 23 passes for 117 yards
Ellison scored twice in the second quarter to give Pattonville a 14-7 halftime lead. The Pirates outscored the Panthers 12-0 in the second half as Ellison scored another touchdown.
Pattomville won Class Five, District Two by defeating Suburban XII Conference South Division rival Webst4r Groves 36-14 and former Suburban North Conference rival Hazelwood East 48-0.
Pattonville’s losses include Class Six Semifinalist Eureka (31-7) and former Suburban North rival Hazelwood Central (33-27 in overtime). Staley won Class Five, District Eight by defeating St. Joseph Central (60-0) and Liberty, Mo. (49-24), the won the quarterfinal over Fort Osage (28-14) and the semifinal over Carthage (54-13).
