Joplin, Mo., has been the site for years for the Missouri State Christian Athletic Association championships and have been playing all fall sports in late October, all winter sports in late February and all spring sports in early May.
This Thursday-Saturday, April 30-May 2, North County Christian School will be going for their second straight MSCAA Girls High School Soccer Championship. The tournament bracket and parings are not available at press time so more information can be found, if available, by going online at www.nccsedu.org. NCCS was founded in 1962 by the Ferguson Church of the Nazarene and now is located in the former St. Thomas Aquinas-Mercy High School campus, moving in 2004 after Aquinas-Mercy merged with Rosary to form Trinity Catholic and is using the former Rosary High School campus.
Prior to playing Tower Grove Christian on senior night, April 27, NCCS has a record of 10-0 and has outscored the opposition, 68-2. Only Highland, Ill., on March 24, and North County Tech, on April 3, have scored on the Crusaders. NCCS also won their own invitational tournament played April 16-18.
There is no roster available to mention the players or their year in school but head coach Brianne Henrichs, 2008 Twin Rivers Christian Activities Association Coach of the Year, said after the April 18 win over Tower Grove Christian in the NCCS Invitational championship game “we’re a very young team and hope to grow. I got a great group of girls.”
NCCS, a Missouri State High School Activities Association affiliate registered school, has an enrollment of 125 students, would be adjusted to 169 and would compete in Class One against Trinity and/or Lutheran North if they are an MSHSAA member. NCCS competed against two MSHSAA members, North Tech and Yeshiva, and an Illinois High School Association member, Highland.
NORTH COUNTY TECH has a player, Heather Wors, who has scored 18 goals prior to April 27 but 13 of them came in two games against Cahokia, Ill., and three against Jennings. Wors and Highland’s April Lauchner were the only goal scorers against North County Christian. Wors also scored against Gateway Tech. North Tech’s win-loss record and schedule is not available.
