A unique contest challenged teams of architects and engineers, construction firms and students to design enormous structures all out of canned food. The display ended March 16 at St. Louis Mills.

Each structure took approximately 5-13 hours to build and uses an estimated 3,500-8,600 canned food items. More than 50,000 canned goods collected during the competition and coinciding food drive will be donated to the St. Louis Area Foodbank and the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry.

The entries were judged by local experts and celebrities in the categories of Best Use of Labels, Best Meal, Structural Integrity, Jurors’ Favorite. Those selected will be entered into a national competition sponsored by the Society for Design Administration.

The competition closed on March 16.
