Prep Notebook North County Christian School Now A MSHSAA Affiliate Registered School

BY JIM WIENERS

The Missouri State High School Activities Association now has a list of high schools that are not MSHSAA members but are listed as Affiliate Registered Schools.

North County Christian School is one of those MSHSAA Affiliate Registered Schools. In a telephone interview with MSHSAA Communications Director Jason West last Friday said that MSHSAA Affiliate Registered Schools can compete against MSHSAA member schools at the high school level (grades 9-12), follow MSHSAA guidelines (rules and regulations), and have a chance to become a MSHSAA member. West also said Affiliate Registered Schools do not qualify to compete in MSHSAA District or State Championships.

NCCS competes in high school soccer (boys and girls), volleyball (girls), basketball (boys and girls), baseball (boys) and golf (boys) and is the member of the TRCAA. One of the members of the TRCAA, O’Fallon-Christian High School is a MSHSAA member but other MSHSAA Affiliated Registered High Schools includes Faith Community Christian, St. Louis Christian Academy, Tower Grove Christian High School, Thomas Jefferson High School and Christian Academy of Greater St. Louis.

RIVERVIEW GARDENS FIELD HOCKEY — STILL GOING — While many high schools in North St. Louis County dropped Girls Field Hockey during the late 1970s Riverview Gardens continues to play the sport. So far this season Riverview is 1-5 prior to last Monday, Sept. 22 but three of those losses have been by one goal, according to Wes Walters, who is in his 27th year as the Rams Field Hockey Head Coach. Wins have been few and far between as Riverview, since 2001, has only won five prior to last Monday including two over Parkway South (including this year by a 1-0 score), two over Parkway West and one over Parkway North. The Rams in 2004 tied Webster Groves 1-1.

Shelah Fields has five goals while Chasidy Allen has two including last Friday in a 4-1 home loss to Oakville but the player that has gotten the attention of opposing coaches is senior goalie Candace Adams.

Last Friday against Oakville Adams made at least three key saves. Even though wins are few and far between and there are no nearby rivals “I still get the girls, they come out every year, usually juniors and seniors,” Wes Walters said, last Friday after the Oakville game, and “They don’t quit.”
