Girls Rule McCluer North Track-Field, Incarnate Word Academy Basketball

McCluer North Girls Track And Field made school history by winning the school’s first state title in that sport.

Incarnate Word Academy Girls Basketball made school history by winning back-to back state titles in that sport.

McCluer North Girls Track And Field won the school’s ninth Missouri State High School Activities Association championship in school history, with the first going to Boys Soccer in the winter of 1975. It was only the second state title in Girls Sports joining Basketball winning the Class 4A title in 1986. McCluer North also won three Class Five Boys Basketball titles (2007, 2011, and 2012) and three Class 4A Wrestling titles (1988, 1989, and 1990)

After winning the Suburban North Conference meet title on May 8 McCluer North rebounded from a second-place finish in Class Four, District Three on May 17 by winning Class Four, Sectional Two on May 24. McCluer North, on May 31, won the Class Four State title by scoring 65 points to 52 for runner up Lee’s Summit West, 46 for third place Hazelwood Central (state champions last year) and 40 for fourth place Eureka.

Jasmine Barge sets a new state record by winning the 300-Meter Low Hurdles and also won state in the 100-Meter Intermediate Hurdles. The Stars also won state in the 4×200-Meter Relay and secured their state team championship when they won the 4×400-Meter Relay.

McCluer North was also a Class Two Boys Tennis Team Sectional Qualifier after winning District Five.

Incarnate Word Academy won their second straight Class Four State title, their sixth overall in that sport and the 26 overall in all sports, winning them in three — Basketball, Soccer and Volleyball. While winning back-to-back titles in Basketball, IWA won back-to-back titles three times in Soccer (1993-1994, 1999-2000, 2008-2009) while Girls Volleyball won five straight titles in 1982-1986 and three straight in 2003-2005.

IWA was 31-1 last season and was 62-1 in the last two seasons. The Red Knights only blemish took place Jan. 25 in Louisville, Ky. Losing 58-49 to Blackman High, Murfreesboro, Tenn., a team IWA defeated 53-44 on Jan. 1 (New Year’s Day) in the Naples, Fla., Holiday Shootout final. The Red Knights, in the Webster Groves Winter Classic Championship Game, won 40-37 over Columbia-Rock Bridge, a team that has won three straight Class Five State Championships. IWA was also a repeat champion in the Visitation Christmas Tournament.

Napheesa Collier — who averaged nearly 24 points, 10 rebounds per game, over three assists, nearly four steals and over two blocks per game while shooting over 70 percent from the floor and over 71 percent from the free throw line — was reported to have made a verbal commitment to attend the University of Connecticut, an NCAA Division I champion, after she completes her senior year at IWA.

IWA also qualified in Class Two Sectionals in Girls Tennis and Girls Soccer, both District Five champs.

McCLUER SOUTH-BERKELEY took second place in Class Three Girls State Track And Field and was fourth in Class Three Boys Track and Field. McCluer South-Berkeley, who won District Three and Sectional Two, sets a new state record in winning the 4×100-Meter Relay and won state in the 4×400-Meter Relay. MS-Berkeley won Boys Class Three Sectional Two Track And Field after finishing second in District Two and the Football team was a Class Three, District Five Champion and Quarterfinalist.

LUTHERAN NORTH was a Class Two Football Semifinalist losing 70-7 to eventual repeat champion Lamar that snapped a nine-game winning streak, which included winning Class Two, District Two after opening the season with four losses. Girls Soccer was a Class One, District Five champion and a sectional qualifier before losing 6-0 to eventual repeat state champion Duchesne.

McCLUER won the Class Four Boys 4×200 Relay.
