The Historic Daniel Boone Home & Heritage Center will be hosting an event called Journey West on April 26 from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  This is an interactive, first-person, family-friendly event where visitors will be encouraged to step back in time to the 19th century and assume the role of someone traveling West from Missouri or someone settling on the Missouri Frontier. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (55 and older), and $6 for children (ages 4 – 11).

Become immersed in the history of westward travel. As visitors make their way through the village, they will negotiate for goods, trade livestock, purchase material, and discuss the voyage ahead, just as people did in the past. The site’s historic pioneer village will be transformed into a living history town with men and women preparing for travel. Visitors will be able to view the many historic buildings and live animals. Guests to the event will also be able to see the Historic Daniel Boone Home, meet the Boone family and glimpse at what life in the home was really like.

Special Guests to Journey West Include:

Dale Besse, a renowned Native American Beadwork artist who will be making a presentation about the history of Native American beadwork and its historic importance as a form of currency and ornamentation. Besse’s work can be seen in many museum collections throughout the country.

Tonya BlackOwl Moore, a Ponca/Kiowa American Indian who will be addressing the nuances of Native American culture; she will include tribal practice, people and culture of the American Indian.

Angela da Silva, cultural preservationist and performer of “Lila: The Life of a Missouri Slave”.  Angela da Silva portrays Lila and brings her forward to tell her story and to give voice to slave women whom time and memory have forgotten. “Lila” has performed for events large and small all over the country.

The day will also include Tomahawk Throwing, live “period-accurate” auctions and food available for purchase.

Located at 1868 Highway F in Defiance, Mo., the Daniel Boone Home is the house in which the legendary explorer and frontiersman Daniel Boone spent his final years. The four-story Georgian-style home was built overlooking the Femme Osage Valley. The adjoining Boonefield Village contains over a dozen other 19th century buildings that have been moved from the surrounding area and are used to represent town life on the frontier.
