Smaller Ferguson Holiday Event Celebration is Part of the Healing
There was no lighted parade like in years past, but there
were other holidays events normally associated with the city Northern Lights celebration held annually on the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
The regular date had to be cancelled this year in wake of all the clean-up, fix-up efforts in the city.
Mayor James Knowles said city leaders felt it would be good event to hold even if it was scaled back, By dark a few hundred people were on hand for the tree lighting event.
Knowles said it was necessary to get things moving forward once again in the city. The Northern Lights was a good starting point, as the city, since mid-August has had to cancel the annual StreetFest in September, the bicycle Twilight Run in October and then the first scheduled Northern Lights originally set for Nov. 30
Sunday’s event including a holiday market, face painting, kids crafts, the trackless train, free cookies and hot chocolate. There were twice as many venders at past Northern Lights events. But there was a visit from Santa and story telling by Mrs. Claus (see bottom photo)
