In response to district patrons concerns about security in Hazelwood School District schools, the administration has taken several steps in recent days to address those issues.
Among them are the adding four additional security guards at the high schools, developing a district-wide advisory group for school safety and having staff attend bomb and arson training in St. Louis County. Much of these results came after more than 100 parents and school officials met to review information and make recommendations.
The new district advisory group for school safety will hold its first meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 6 p.m. at the commons at Hazelwood Central High School.
The Hazelwood District has formed six advisory groups in these areas: textbooks and materials, technology, starting and ending times at the middle schools, transportation and safety at both Central and West High Schools.
Superintendent Chris Wright has sent a letter to community leaders updating them and the public of recent activities stemming from those meetings.
“The purpose of the advisory groups was to inform people about what has already been done, address misinformation, identify any additional actions that were required, and seek input from our stakeholders about how we can do all this better in the future,” she wrote.
