Is It Too Early to Plan To Attend 2012 Series?

by Randy Gardner

I’m already planning on where I am going to sit for the 2012 World Series. If you are like me, as we sit right now just about five games into the season and the Birds have only lost one, we are off on the right foot without Albert Pujols.

I have talked over the past few weeks about not missing Pujols and I think after the past week or so it is even more evident that the franchise will survive without him.

This move will make John Mozeliak look like a genius if the team continues to play the way they are. Looking at the power rankings though the Cards are not even in the top 5 right now. What is that all about? The Cards have lost one game and are scoring on average 5-7 runs a game.

It’s fun to watch Pujols struggle in California, he ran right through the 3rd base coach signs the other day and was thrown out at the plate. I wonder if that will be allowed for long out there like it was here, or is he bigger than the game out there too?

As I mentioned, I am really excited about this Cards team this year. The pitching has looked great at all levels of the game and the hitting has been wonderful, even though we don’t hear much about the hitting coach Mark McGuire who obviously is doing a good job.

It is really funny to look into the dugout and not see Tony  but to see Mike Mathenny. He just looks so young like he should be a player still. He is so cool calm and collected and just let’s the guys play, so for.  I think he is really going to be a player’s coach. This week will be a mess downtown for opening day as there are so many things going on downtown including the NRA convention, Blues Hockey, the horse show, and of course the Cards. Good luck if you are going down.

Blues Will Get More Buzz if They Win 1st Round

The Blues will open up against the Sharks this week for the Stanley Cup playoffs. With the Cards getting so much attention right now, will the Blues get what they actually deserve as far as airtime in this City? I think if the Blues get past the first round, they will. The average fan will pay attention to a team that really deserves it.

Hockey will probably never be as huge as Baseball of Football in terms of the average fan but for the hockey heads, it couldn’t be any bigger right now. Where would the Stanley Cup travel in St. Louis if they won it all? Would we have the huge parade downtown and how many people would show up?

I heard the other day that MLS soccer actually took over the 3rd spot from the NBA as the most watched sports in the U.S. As a whole, I think it is partly due to the fact that Seattle draws 50,000 fans to each game, that’s incredible. I think all of the soccer nuts will be excited about that but not so excited that the U.S. was eliminated from the Summer Olympic Games, what the heck is up with that?

It is almost an embarrassment to our nation. It just won’t be the same as far as the Summer Games.
