LOTTIE NOONAN celebrated her 101st birthday at the Villa at Riverwood on Aug. 23, a day it was 101 degrees outside! Hazelwood Mayor T.R. Carr presented Lottie with a proclamation from the City of Hazelwood recognizing her on this occasion. Lottie has resided at the Villa for 12 years.

When Lottie Noonan was born, the average wage was only 22-cents per hour, and people could purchase marijuana, morphine and heroin over the counter at their corner drugstore.

But that was 101 years ago. Now Lottie lives at The Villa at Riverwood Retirement Community where family, friends and staff celebrated her milestone birthday on August 23rd. Hazelwood’s Mayor T.R. Carr attended, and presented Lottie with a plaque declaring the day Lottie P. Noonan Day in the City.

Lottie attributes her longevity to “good sense.” She claims she never smoked nor indulged in libations.

Mrs. Noonan was employed for 50 years as personal assistant and secretary to Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Sayman, owners of The Sayman Soap Company. As a result, Lottie was able to enjoy traveling extensively throughout the United States and Europe.

Lottie’s late husband, Edward Noonan, owned the Northside Glass Company at the corner of Carter and 9th street in St. Louis. The Noonans had no children, but Lottie still enjoys spending time with four generations of her family which includes dozens of nieces and nephews.

Lottie has been a resident of The Villa at Riverwood for 12 years.
