Trinity students to perform in talent showcase

Trinity Catholic High School junior Gabby Merz and sophomore Maggie Dailey have been selected to perform in the 1st Annual St. Louis Teen Talent Showcase that will be held in three rounds in April and May. The final round of competition will take place Friday, May 6 at the Fox Theatre. Trinity is one of 56 high schools that will be sending performers to the event that is being sponsored by the Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation. Preliminary rounds will be held April 9 at DeSmet High School, Washington University and the Lindenwood University Belleville campus

David Dotson, a senior in computer engineering from Florissant,  is one of 10 Missouri University of Science and Technology students who will spend spring break helping out at a homeless shelter in New Orleans.

The students are taking part in Missouri S&T’s Miner Challenge 2011, an alternative spring break program sponsored by the university’s student life department. This is the fourth year for the program and the first year S&T will send teams to two different parts of the country.

Dotson’s team will travel to New Orleans to volunteer at Ozanam Inn, a homeless shelter and soup kitchen. In all, 10 Missouri S&T students are part of the New Orleans Miner Challenge team.

Jordan Wilson a Hazelwood Central student athlete was  presented the McDonald  All American Nominee award for 2011 earlier this month. Wilson has signed to attend Quincy University on a basketball scholarship.

Nominees for the prestigious award were submitted by members of the McDonald’s All American Selection Committee as well as state representatives who closely follow prep basketball players nation-wide.

As a junior, Wilson averaged 12.8 points helping his Hawks to a 21-5 mark. This season Wilson averaged 11.3 points per game for the well balanced Hawks including 41% from the three-point line. In addition Wilson averages 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals per game.
