While District Basketball Tournaments are beginning to wrap up in Classes Four and Five Lutheran High School North looks to secure an ABC League title in Boys Basketball before beginning the Class Three, District Six Tournament Feb. 28 as the number one seed.
Lutheran North — who took a 15-7 overall record, 7-1 in the ABC League, to Principia on Feb. 22 — will visit John Burroughs (14-8, 7-2) Feb. 24 for a 6 p.m. game. Regardless of the outcome at Principia Lutheran North can secure the outright ABC League title with a win over Burroughs.
Securing the ABC League title is something LHSN Coach Brent Rueter says the Crusaders were aiming at. So after the Feb. 18 win over Priory, 65-51 Rueter says the season was still up in the air.
Securing a top seed in Districts was another goal and the Crusaders got the number one seed in Class Three District Six in a Feb. 19 meeting. Lutheran North will be playing at Whitfield and open District Six play Feb. 28 with a 3:30 p.m. game against Lutheran High-St. Charles County. North Tech coach Jeffrey McCaw, who coached the now-defunct Wellston-Eskridge to a third-place finish in Class Two state last year before the school closed, said following a North Tech win Feb. 19 at O’Fallon (Mo.) Christian, 73-58, “If we perform well we can go as far as we can.”
