Jacob has served as teacher, coach and athletic director at McCluer since joining its faculty in 1988, including the last 16 years as athletic director. He followed in the footsteps of his father, Larry Jacob, who was a coach, teacher and athletic director at McCluer High School from 1962 until his retirement in 1992.
Thus, at least one of the father and son has been on the McCluer High School staff for the last 52 years.
During his tenure at McCluer, Kurt has coached football, basketball, wrestling and track and field. His teams have included:
· 25 state qualifiers, seven state medalists and a state champion in wrestling;
· 10 All-State Boys relay teams, 22 All-State Boys individuals including three state champions, 11 All-State Girls relay teams and 26 All-State Girls individuals including four state champions in track and field;
· three district championships, two Sectional championships and five Conference championships in basketball;
· multiple years taking the Comets football team to the Missouri state tournament.
“We have been honored to have Kurt Jacob as a teacher, coach, administrator and colleague for more than 25 years,” said McCluer High School principal Gary Spiller. “Along with his father Larry, Kurt has instilled the legacy of Jacob excellence in students and athletes at McCluer High School for several generations.”
