Read More4-4 Record Would Be Great 1st Half For Rams
BY RANDY GARDNER
You could just feel it coming, the let down of the St. Louis Rams in the 2nd half last Sunday. The first half looked so promising as the Rams got out to a good lead but then as we have seen over the past few years, the wheels fell off. Even with the loss, the Rams are 3-4 and still in great shape to make the playoffs, but what I like most is the great play of Sam Bradford. He still makes some mistakes but you expect him to make the right call or pass compared to Marc Bulger, where you were just waiting for the huge mistake.
The team can win at home and a big win this weekend would make them 4-4 going into the bye week and I think if you asked anyone if we were 4-4 at the halfway mark, they would be ecstatic.
Tigers Got to Ready Saturday
How about those Tigers of Missouri as they stepped up to the plate and took one from number one Oklahoma. I was so afraid that the hype of the big stage would be to much and I actually picked against them, but they proved me wrong. From the opening kickoff on this Tiger team played one heck of a ball game both on offense and defense. It was so cool to see ESPN’s Gameday Live at Mizzou with the biggest crowd ever assembled for that show. As I drove on highway 70 East on Saturday, it was just a caravan of cars with some kind of Tiger sign on them heading West.
This team has a legitimate shot at playing in a huge bowl game if Gary Pinkel can keep this team grounded. This will be a determining week for this team against Nebraska on the road as teams are most vulnerable after a big emotional win.
Mixed Emotion on LaRussa’s Return
So are you happy about the return of Tony LaRussa and the crew? I have mixed emotions about the whole thing. I think that Tony is a great manager but do the fans and players feel it is a time for a change. As Tony even says, 15 years is a long time for a manager to be in one place with only one World Series win.
I can tell you that the outcome of the season will determine whether he should have come back and that means that all of the bandwagon fans here in St. Louis will have the last say, if the Cards win another World Series the fans will love him forever. Ifnot the fans will forever think of him as a failure and to me that is a sad thing.
Let’s remember that this guy has consistently had the Cards up around the 1st place area almost every year. More importantly, what do you think about the return of Big Mac as the hitting coach? Someone told me yesterday that they should send him back to California and just let him watch the team bat by Skype video conferencing and pay him only a percentage of what he is paid. Do big league players at this level really need hitting coaches anyway?
Have a Happy and safe Halloween and take your time driving in subdivisions. The kids are looking not at the traffic, only one thing is on their mind and that’s candy. Happy Halloween.
