Team Central Gymnastic’s Tom Stevens Selected as Missouri Coach of the Year

Team Central Gymnastic Academy in Maryland Heights has announced that head team coach, Tom Stevens has been selected as the Missouri Coach of the Year.  This is the first time this honor has been presented to a coach in Missouri.

Stevens was selected as Missouri Optional Coach of the Year by judges, coaches and members of the Missouri USA Gymnastics Governing Body.  He was presented with a plaque at the Annual Missouri USA Gymnastics Professional Members Meeting and reception in Columbia, Mo.

Kim Fuchs, Missouri State Administrative Committee chairman stated “Tom was very deserving of the award. He has done an outstanding job with the optional gymnastic levels.”  Tom offers state gymnastic training clinics to other coaches and gymnasts in the USA.

Team Parent, Tammy Knuth stated “Tom promotes good sportsmanship helping the girls learn life lessons on winning and losing with dignity. He has a lot of patience with each gymnast and breaks down the skill in a way each gymnast can understand and learn the skill with perfect form”.  Team Parent, Kim Martin said“Tom is an outstanding role model for kids. He develops good rapport with each athlete and never shows anger or frustration.”

Stevens has been involved in gymnastics most of his life.  His mother and father have owned a gymnastic school in Jacksonville, Illinois for over 35 years where Tom was a competitive gymnast and later a coach. Tom and his wife Megan moved to St Louis in 1999 when they were both offered team coach positions at Team Central Gymnastic Academy ,  In 2004 Stevens  took over as Head Coach leading a staff of five competitive team coaches.

During the past 5 years under the leadership of Tom as head coach, Team Central Gymnastic Academy has had had five state team champions, 194 individual state champions, 28 Regional Champions and has sent 11 athletes to National Championships.
