FROM THE ASCENSION CHARITY CLASSIC

       Scorecard for the event…Record-Breaking

Both on and off the Norwood Golf Course

Another successful Ascension Charity Classic presented by Emerson is in the books, the scorecards have been turned in and a new Champion has been crowned. On Arnold Palmers 93rd birthday, 56 year old Steve Flesch was a deadeye shooter with his long-handled putter, putting up   birdies on the final day, and playing his last 35 holes of the weekend bogey-free, to take the 3rd annual event with a tournament record low score of 62.

That equates to 9 under for the day, and 19 under for the tournament and a three-stroke win over second-place Kevin Sutherland, who was one of the co-leaders going into the day, and who himself played some very consistent golf with just one bogey for the entire weekend.

For his efforts, Flesch pocketed a cool $300,000, and is sure to share a good chunk of that with his caddie, son Griffin.

The Classic also set a record for charitable donations, according to Nick Ragone, Executive Vice President and marketing chief for Ascension. The event raised over $1 million this year, only in it’s third iteration, and one of these charity recipients is the Marygrove Childrens Home in Florissant.

Next year’s event is set for September 3-8, again to be held at the very lovely and green-friendly Norwood Hills Country Club in Jennings.

I would be remiss in not mentioning that last years winner, Padraig Harrington, finished tied for 79th place in the Irish Open. Hopefully, he will be back in the pack for next year’s competition here at Norwood Hills.

And, so, have a great fall… my favorite time of the year for soccer and golf and fishing. Not a big football fan, but then, we all have our preferences. Take care.
