Outstanding Staff, Students Honored By Ferguson-Florissant School Board

The Ferguson-Florissant School District Board of Education will honor the accomplishments of staff and students at its monthly board meeting on Wednesday, April 14, at 7 p.m.

Superintendent Jeff Spiegel, said he believes the recognitions are a good reminder to the board and district as a whole about the reason they exist – to serve students. He added, “It also gives us an opportunity to smile before we address routine board business.” The list of board recognitions follows:

• Laura Beckmann, physical education, health and wellness curriculum coordinator, who is one of more than 70 “Distinguished Delegates” (educators, health professionals, administrators and policymakers) from 30 countries invited to the Global Forum for Physical Education and Pedagogy 2010. The May 13-14 event will be held in Iowa.

• Drew Mueller, a sophomore at McCluer North High School, for placing second in the nation for his age group and tenth overall in the 2010 U.S. National High School Racquetball Championships in Portland, Oregon. Mueller competed against top-ranked high school males in singles matches and brought home a silver medal. He also finished second for players from Missouri.

• Taelon Smith, a senior at McCluer High School, was presented with the prestigious President’s Volunteer Service award. The award recognizes Americans of all ages who volunteer significant amounts of time to serve their community and country. Smith also received  Certificate of Excellence.

Cool Valley Elementary School winners include Jimonnie Whittaker, a kindergartener, Tahj Henderson, a second-grader, Jayla Allen and Trinity McCaw both fourth-graders, and Cody Yates, a sixth-grader.
