Garrett Elementary Fundraiser Benefits Local Humane Society

Student Council members from Garrett Elementary School in the Hazelwood School District donated $245 to the Humane Society last month from donations collected during a ‘Pennies for Pets’ campaign.

Money was collected during the months of March and April and a volunteer from the Humane Society visited the school to accept the donation. The volunteer brought along a friend, a dog named Ellie, to present demonstrations to students about animal behavior, caring for pets and how to behave safely around pets and wild animals.

By vote, students chose how the donation would be used. Half of the money will help provide medical care for stray animals and the other half will help fund the society’s animal foster care program.
