Mayor Lowery to have Opposition in April 3rd Election

It appears there will be a mayor’s race in Florissant afterall. Andrew Podleski, 55, who works for a defense software company, Blachard Systems, took his petitions to Florissant City Hall on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

His wife, Christine BredenKoetter, said he had at least twice the 500 signatures needed to appear on the April 3 ballot. Jan. 17 was the last day candidates could turn in the required petitions to be on the ballot.

As espected, Mayor Robert Lowery, Sr., had filed for re-election on Wednesday, Jan. 3. The mayor reported that over 2,000 signatures were collected and more were coming in. This will be Mayor Lowery’s third election for mayor after serving several years as police chief when James Eagan was mayor.

Podleski grew up in Old Town Florissant, went to Sacred Heart Grade School and St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He graduated from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1977 with a BA in mathematics. He is an Air Force veteran (1971-74) and served in the Missouri Air National Guard until 1979.

—In a special election on Feb. 6, three candidates will vie to fill the council seat of Gerri Debo who recently moved from Florissant.

The three candidates in the special election are: Michael Berry, Keith English, and Matt Mueller. Debo had defeated Mueller in the regular council elections.
