The City of Florissant and Florissant Old Town Partners have announce da plaque dedication that had to be re-scheduled from last July will be on Wednesday, June 28 in honor of the late Harold “Bud” and Bernice Foley.

This was originally going to be the 52nd Walk Through History plaque in honor of someone that have made valuable contributions to the City of Florissant or someone with Florissant roots that has impacted our community.

The ceremony will be held on Wednesday, July 28 at 5:30 p.m. directly across from Florissant City Hall. The plaque dedication will take place before the start of the second Wednesday Night Out festivities which is hosted by Kortes Custom Framing & Antiques located in the 500 block of N. Jefferson in Old Town.

    Harold “Bud” Foley was a labor leader and the state’s most decorated veteran of World War II. He had received two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Starts, seven Battle Stars, three Presidential Citations and the Croix de Guerre from France.

Bud, a labor leader, was president of the St. Louis Building and Construction Trades and business manager of the Pipefitters Union local 562.He had been a member of the plumbers & pipefitters union for 42 years, rising from a journeyman pipefitter to various offices within the union. Besides holding the position of business manager, he also had been a business agent and secretary-treasurer.

Bud also served as a councilman from 1952 to 1957. Bud and his wife Bernice were very active for many years on the Florissant Township & Democratic Club. Bernice Foley supported FDR & every Democrat President, MO Governor and US Senator until she was almost 100. She supported local ballot issues for progress and Florissant area office holders including mayors and councilmembers.

     ,He was also very active in PRIDE, a labor management group formed to resolve disputes in the construction industry. Bud always wanted to improve the quality of life for working people. Bernice supported every Democrat President, Missouri Governor and United States Senator from FDR to Joe Biden. She supported Florissant ballot issues and office holders for progress including Mayors and Councilmembers.

Bernice worked hard supporting issues and leaders to serve the American working people. Bernice and her husband Bud were long-time Florissant residents and they were considered by many political pioneers for Florissant progress.
