5-K Run, Food Trucks, Irish Entertainment
Call it the luck of Florissant Irish, the weather forecast is sunny and high around 60 on Sunday March 13, perfect weather for a new festival to the Florissant entertainment and culture schedule. The City Council recently gave the new festival its name The Valley of Shamrocks and by all indications, it has grown from a good idea into a fun packed day including the Parade starting a noon , food trucks, the 5-K Run in the morning and Irish entertainment venues such as Ukulele Tom 11 am-1 p.m, Irish Dancers from 1-3 p.m. featuring two troupes, the Clark Academy of Irish Dance and Meghan Torno School of Irish Dance, plus the Big Rigs- Acoustic Trio 3-6 p.m.
The festival organizers say thee are 50 parade entries, over 200 runners for our 5K, Run and over 40 vendors for the festival. The festival will have food trucks, beer, corned beef and cabbage being served by the Knights of Columbus. Special thanks to Patrick Mulcahy for providing much of this information.
The parade will start at noon from Bangert Park, travel along New Florisssant Road to rue St. Francois and conclude at the Duchesne Home Association grounds near St. Ferdinand Shrine. Carole Lowery will be the first parade marshal for the inaugural festival. (see flyer for more information)
