Trinity Boys Basketball Takes 10-3
Record To Belleville East Classic

Trinity Catholic High School Boys Basketball returns to Belleville, Ill., this week to compete in the Belleville Township High School East Classic
Trinity, 10-3 overall, began play Jan. 22 against 8-8 Belleville Township High School West The tournament includes 7-3 Normandy Collaborative, 11-6 Belleville East, 5-11 Althoff Catholic (Belleville), 18-8 Collinsville, Ill., 9-9 Alton, Ill., and Champaign (Ill.) Central. The Tournament began Jan. 21 for Althoff, Collinsville, Alton and Champaign Central while Belleville East and Normandy met after the Trinity-Belleville East Game.
Tourney losers play Thursday (Jan. 23), in 6 p.m. and 7:30 consolation semifinal games while winners advance to the championship semifinal games at 6 p.m. and 7:30 Friday (Jan. 24). The Belleville East Classic concludes Saturday (Jan. 25) with games at 12noon (seventh place) 1:30 (consolation final), 6 p.m. (third place) and 7:30 (championship)
Last season Trinity took a 12-0 record to Belleville East and won their first-round game 70-50 over Champaign Central. Alton dealt the Titans their first loss of the season as the eventual tournament champion Redbirds won 64-62. Trinity salvaged a third-place finish with a 57-42 win over Soldan International Studies, a team Trinity defeated in the Class Three, District Seven Final.
Trinity played only three games after winning their third straight Mary Institute-Country Day School Tournament. The Titans improved to -2-1 in the Archdiocesan Athletic Association Division II with a 71-43 win Jan. 6 over Bishop DuBourg at Bob Strub Gym, won 77-67 over Mehlville Jan. 11 in the Highland, Ill., Shootout before losing 67-60 to Chaminade Jan. 18 at Maryville University Moloney Arena in the Simon Athletic Center.
Trinity did not play the scheduled Jan. 17 game at Lutheran St. Charles Count due to icy conditions and will play Feb. 5, two days before the Feb. 7 rematch at Strub Gym. Both Games start mat 7:30. The Titan visit McCluer North Jan. 28 at 5:30, meet East St. Louis, Ill., in the Alton, Ill., Shootout Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. and visits St. Louis University High Feb. 4 at 7:15.
Seven -foot senior Ryan Kalkbrenner scores 15.5 points per game, pulls down 10.7 rebounds per game and blocks 79 shots. Six-foot senior Rashad Weekly scores 17.8 points per game with 45 assists and 18 steals
McCLUER BOYS were 12-2 prior to the Jan. 22 game against former Suburban North Conference rival Hazelwood East in the M-4 Gym. The Comets visit St. Mary’s Jan. 30 at 6L45, Cardinal Ritter’s Shootout Feb. 1 for a 7:30 game against the host Lions resume Suburban Conference Red Pool (2-0) play Feb. 4, 7 p.m. at Lindbergh. At the M-4 Gym the Comets defeated Suburban Red Pool rival McCluer North 50-44 (Jan. 9) and Granite City, Ill., 84-57 (Jan. 15).
Six-foot senior Jeremiah Johnson cores 12.9 points per game with 37 assists and 38 steals. Six-foot-two junior Anias Futrell scores 10.9 points per game while pulling down 77 rebounds. Six-Foot-Six senior Devon Barshow scores 14.6 point per game while six-foot-five senior Kameryn Hubbard blocks 30 shots.
LUTHERAN NORTH BOYS were 13-4 overall, 1-1 in the Metro League prior to playing at Lutheran South (Jan. 21) and at home against St. Louis Priory (Jan. 23). In 7 p.m. games, the Crusaders visit John Burroughs Jan. 28, Jefferson City Jan. 31 and Westminster Christian Academy, Feb. 4.
