The North County Incorporated (NCI) Board of Directors approved a resolution at their July board meeting stating support of and partnership with the 2010 Census.
They are encouraging local residents and businesses to participate in events and initiatives to raise overall awareness of the 2010 Census and to increase participation. NCI is committed to ensuring that every resident of North St. Louis County is counted.
In March 2010, more than 130 million addresses across the United States will receive a census questionnaire. This form will be one of the shortest census forms in history; it asks about 10 questions and takes about 10 minutes to complete.
Completing the questionnaire is easy, important and safe and all residents’ participation is essential. The 2010 Census will be used to redraw Congressional and local legislative district lines for the 2012 elections. Any shifts in population could have a significant impact as census data is used to reapportion the U.S. House of Representatives, re-district each state and determine the distribution of the Electoral College.
“The census data directly affects how more than $400 billion per year in federal funding is distributed throughout our country, our county and our municipal governments,†said NCI Executive Director
Rebecca Zoll. “We want to make sure that we get our fair share of these funds and we can only do this if everyone participates in Census 2010 and is counted.â€Â This funding helps improve schools and healthcare, builds roads, helps expand public transportation and provides other benefits that can improve our communities and the way we live.
North County Incorporated is a regional development organization, which acts as a catalyst to define and advocate economic and community development for North St. Louis County. NCI was established in 1977. The Board is composed of community leaders and business owners. Lillie Dumas is the current president.
