Trinity Catholic will be traveling from 1420 Redman Rd. in Spanish Lake to 4701 So. Grand Blvd., in South St. Louis for this Saturday’s 1 p.m. Class Three home State Semifinal Football Game against defending State Champion Maryville, which is making an over six-hour trip from northwest Missouri.

The winner plays for the Missouri State championship Dec. 1, 11 a.m. against Cardinal Ritter or Mount Vernon at Faurot Field on the University of Missouri Campus in Columbia

St. Mary’s High School is hosting the game on a turf field. The last time Trinity played at St. Mary’s was in 2010, two years before the Archdiocesan Athletic Association went to two division, and the Titans defeated the Dragons 48-29 on a grass field.

St. Mary’s is no stranger to Maryville. In the 2016 State Semifinals, the Spoofhounds defeated Clyde C. Miller Career Academy 42-6 before losing to Monett, 27-18 in Springfield. Maryville, which won five state titles since 1982 including four since 2009, is on a 12-game winning streak after losing the season-opener to Blair Oaks, playing this year in the Class Two Semifinal against Lutheran North (see related article). Maryville, which defeated Blair Oaks in the 2017 Class Three Semifinal, is in their 11th State Semifinal since 1982 and is 112-11 since 2010.

Trinity is making their second state semifinal since 2016 and their first in Class Three. In 2016, the Titans finished as Class Two Runner Up after losing 26-18 to Lamar, which seeks their eighth consecutive Class Two title, is playing Saturday at Lathrop in the semifinal. Mercy, a predecessor to Trinity, won the 1968 Class 3A semifinal over Farmigton 36-14 before losing the final to Kansas City DeLaSalle (Charter) 14-8.

Trinity is on an 11-game winning streak after losing their first two out state. The first loss was at Colquitt County, Ga., which is hosting North Gwinnett Friday in the Georgia Class 7A Quarterfinals. The second was in triple overtime at East St. Louis, which finished as an Illinois Class 7A Quarterfinalist and Southwestern Conference Champions.

After steamrolling through Sumner (88-0) and McCluer South-Berkeley (71-10), Trinity romped at home over St. Charles West 39-6 Nov. 9 for the Class Three, District Three title. It was the Titans’ second district title in the last 3 years and their third since 2009.

Trinity put away St. Charles West in the first half as the Titans took a 39-0 lead to the locker room on a snowy night. Most of the second half was on a rolling clock but St. Charles West spoiled the shutout by scoring a touchdown with 2:25 left in the game.

Senior quarterback Isaiah Williams, a reported commit to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, completed six passes for 190 yards and three touchdowns. Junior wide receiver Teriyon Cooper caught thee of Williams’ passes for 133 yards and three touchdowns while senior running back Alphonzo Andrews rushed for two touchdowns

Nov. 9 took Trinity to Ashland (between Columbia and Jefferson City off U.S. Highway 63) and came home with a 27-17 win over Southern Boone. The Titans scored a touchdown in each of the four quarters but missed the extra point in the third. Williams rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns while throwing a touchdown pass in the third quarter to junior wide receiver James Frenchie.
