metrolink logo    Area residents are encouraged to attend a special “Talking Transit” event highlighting transit systems’ security best practices used in several major metropolitan cities. Representatives of other public transit systems will share insights on their security programs and on the issues surrounding St. Louis’ public transit system. ‘Talking Transit’ is sponsored by the Citizens for Modern Transit (CMT), the St. Louis Regional Chamber, and East-West Gateway Council of Governments.

The panel discussion includes Lurae Stuart, project manager of WSP USA, Inc., an engineering firm, which is leading the MetroLink Security Assessment, and representative of transit systems in Portland, Ore.; Sacramento, Calif.; Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn., and Washington, D.C. Stuart and the panel will focus on St. Louis MetroLink’s ongoing security and safety issues.

According to Kim Cella, executive director of Citizens for Modern Transit. “Transit safety and security remains a key priority for the region. We are looking forward to this discussion and the opportunity to learn more about the successes of other systems in hopes of finding workable solutions to take into consideration in our community.”
