North, Chappel Passes 1,000 Points In a battle of Girls Basketball teams sharing 3-0 Suburban XII North records Hazelwood West, with a 1,000-point-plus player in senior Lakeita Chappel, hosts McCluer North Thursday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m.
The winner will contend with Pattonville for the top seed in Class Five, District Three, at McCluer North. The winner gains control of first place in the Suburban XII North and will win it outright with a win on Feb. 9. On that date at 5:30 Hazelwood West visits Hazelwood Central while McCluer North hosts McCluer High
HAZELWOOD WEST (10-4 prior to playing Jan. 31 against Queen of Hearts Tournament runner up Lutheran North) is led by Chappel, who averaged 20.1 points per game and has 35 steals overall while in the Suburban XII North averaged 25.3 points per game while making eight steals On Jan. 26 Chappel scored 21 points and surpassed the 1,000-point mark in her career in the Wildcat 53-27 home win over Hazelwood East as Hazelwood West presented Chappel with a plaque for her 1,000-point accomplishment during the game.
Senior Brene Upchurch pulled down 103 rebounds, sophomore Mallory Meeks has 42 assists overall, six in the Suburban XII North and freshman Abigayle Patterson has blocked 52 shots overall including 15 in the Suburban XII North
McCLUER NORTH (15-7 overall prior to playing Jan. 31 against Lafayette at home) is led by Kortni Collins, Eriyanna Simmons, Anasha Hurst, and Michelle Owens. Overall Collins averaged 10.7 points per game with 59 assists, Simmons has 110 rebounds and 23 blocked shots and Hurst has 55 steals. In the Suburban XII North Collins has 11 rebounds and five assists, Hurst has seven steals and Owens averaged 11.3 points per game.
Hazelwood Central Boys Back On Top Of Ameritime Classic After taking second place to Clyde C. Miller Career Academy last year in the Ameritime Classic at Parkway West Hazelwood Central Boys Basketball returns this year and wins back the title they won two years ago
Last week at Parkway West Hazelwood Central defeated Lake St. Louis-based Liberty 62-47, Parkway Central 60-35 and Lafayette 70-39. It was the 11th championship game in 13 years that Hazelwood Central has played in the Ameritime Classic and it was the Hawks sixth classic title. Nine out of 13 years the Ameritime Classic has been played at Parkway West while the other four were played at Missouri Baptist University.
Junior Shaun Williams played two games and averaged 20.5 points per game and had four steals while senior Evan White played three games and averaged 11.3. Junior Devontae Jefferies pulled down 23 rebounds and blocked three shots, junior Cameron Williams had 10 assists and senior Zavier Beard had four steals
Hazelwood Central (13-7 overall, 2-0 in the Suburban XII Conference North Division prior to Jan. 30) hosts Riverview Gardens Feb. 6 at 5:30 and visits Hazelwood West Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. in Suburban XII North games.
