Interested developers are required to include a project description including dimensions, design concepts and features.
“This is another significant step in the process of eliminating the dangerous eyesore that was once Jamestown Mall and returning this property to being a community asset that is a vibrant contributor to North County’s economy,” said County Executive Steve Stenger. “There is still much to be done, but it is gratifying to see how far we have come and it is exciting to think about a redeveloped site that will provide employment and economic opportunity for area residents.”
The once vibrant mall, which had multiple owners, closed in 2014. In 2015, County Executive Stenger traveled to New York to meet with owners and soon after that meeting the first parcel of property was acquired by the Port Authority. Over the next two years other parcels were acquired, culminating in the Port Authority buying the remaining land in October, 2017. The sale of those two parcels recently closed, clearing the way for the Port Authority to request redevelopment proposals.
In late November an open house was held to give area residents more information about the site and to solicit input about what they would like to see at the site of the former mall. Several hundred people attended and submitted comments.
The comments gathered at the Open House and through the Jamestown Mall page on the County website were considered as the Port Authority put together the RFP. This information also will be considered when a developer is chosen for the project.
The RFP is available on the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership website, http://stlpartnership.com and on the Jamestown Mall page of the St. Louis County website, http://stlouisco.com/Jamestown.
Responses to the RFP are due April 20, but those who are interested are urged to submit proposals as quickly as possible.
