The second annual Living Green in Watkins Creek community water festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 2, on the campus of Hazelwood East High School at 11300 Dunn Road in Spanish Lake.
Last year, approximately 200 people attended the initial festival. Visitors can join professionals and take part in exhibits featuring how to grow a rain garden, build a rain barrel, learn what native plants will look best in your garden and how to assess and make small changes in your own back yard to improve the natural water quality. In addition, there will be trivia game prizes, free trees (for the first 200 visitors) and other gifts, as well as student groups who will perform throughout the event. In addition, student artwork will be on display.
Hands-on exhibits from the Metropolitan Sewer District, Missouri American Water, the Missouri Department of Conservation and other groups will be available for students and adults to try. Members of the Spanish Lake Fire Protection District will also attend with at least one of their emergency vehicles.
