FFSD Superintendent Davis Returns;
No. Carolina Fraud Charges Dropped
The Ferguson-Florissant School District (FFSD) Board of Education has announced the return of Superintendent Joseph Davis, from his requested leave of absence. On Monday, Oct. 9, the board received word from Dr. Davis’ attorney in North Carolina that a dismissal of all charges has been filed.
Board of Education President Rob Chabot
reaffirmed the board’s commitment to Davis and district students. “The board is pleased the matter has been resolved. We are confident in Dr. Davis’ leadership and his focus on providing a great education for our students. We look forward to putting this incident behind us, and hope our community will join us in focusing on the future for the sake of our students.”
Davis’ attorney Watsi Sutton said her client
was innocent of any “willful act or criminal wrongdoing” of using the Washington County Schools’ American Express card to reserve a hotel room and rental car through Priceline.
Ms. Sutton states that, “Intending to use
his own American Express card, Dr. Davis innocently selected the wrong four-digit card number. Once selected, the additional information necessary to complete the transactions were auto-filled from Dr. Davis’s stored customer and payment profile information as confirmed by PriceLine.com.” This type of honest mistake is said by PriceLine.com’s fraud specialists to occur often across online merchants with a customer simply selecting the wrong card from among various cards stored in the customer’s online profile, according to Ms. Sutton. “My investigation confirms this is what happened in Dr. Davis’s case.”
Superintendent Davis received a very warm welcome at a press conference on Tuesday and told the gathering “I am grateful for this day and grateful to God, my wife, son and family, and to many of you who have supported me through this ordeal. I want to publicly acknowledge the Ferguson Florissant School Board and each member, Rob Chabot, Dr. Courtney Graves, Dr. Donna Thurman, Leslie Hogshead, Scott Ebert, Connie Harge and Jessica Ponder for the thoughtful approach they have taken during this enter process. While they have been super supportive of me, they have kept the focus on what is best for the children in this district, my son included. I also want to thank Attorney Paul D’Agrosa and Attorney Cindy Ormsby and the mayors and other elected officials, parents, administrators and many others who are here today.”
Davis returned from leave immediately and said he
looks forward to spending time in schools with staff and students. “I want to thank all those who have been so supportive throughout this ordeal,” Davis stated, “I aim to build and rebuild any trust that may have been lost during this time, and I can assure you that I will be hyper-focused on moving our district forward and providing a high quality education for all children.”
