South West Stars, With 5 Area
Players. Lead SLABA 18U South

With Five Players From Three Area High Schools, the South West Stars 18 and Under lead the St. Louis Amateur Baseball Association South Division.
Prior to June 19 the Stars are 5-0 overall, 2-0 against the South and 2-0 against the North Division. That includes a 13-3 rout June 16 over the American National Eagles in the second game of two at Harris-Stowe State University Stars Park (and it is not because of the SLABA team’s nickname).
Matt Gantner, just graduated from Trinity Catholic, is batting .385 and slugging .615 with eight runs scored, five hits including three doubles and six walks. Gantner, as a pitcher, has a no-hit complete game win while giving up an unearned run June 12, 15-1 over the Easton STL Tigers at CBC Cadet Park. Gantner also has a save, June 5 at Harris Stowe in a 7-4 Stars’ win over St. Charles Capitals 18 Maroon.
Tommy Nolte, just graduated from Trinity Catholic, has a one-hit, six-strikeout shutout June 14, 5-0 at Freeburg, Ill. Offensively, m Nolte is one out of five hitting (.200) with two runs batted in.
Paul Wilson, just graduated from McCluer North, is batting .364 and slugging .455 with three runs, four hits and three walks. Jahbre Taylor, a senior to be at McCluer North, is batting and slugging .308 with two runs and four hits. Vashaun Anderson, just graduated from Hazelwood Central, is batting .600 and slugging .800, with three hits including a double in five times at bat with two walks while scoring four runs.
There are two Home School graduates, Maurice Lafon and Clayton Bailey. Lafon is batting.722 and slugging 1.333 with eight runs scored on 13 hits including three doubles, two home runs and a triple while driving in 13 runs. Bailey has three hits in five times at bat (.600 hitting and 4.00 slugging) with two runs scored and has a pitching win 8-7 June 16 over Belleville, Ill., East in the second game of two at Harris Stowe.
In the win over American National, called in the fifth inning due to a 10-run mercy rule, Anderson and Jack Adler each scored twice. Lafon hits two doubles and a home run, scored three runs and drove in five. Spencer Powell drove in two runs.
The South West Stars 18, in July, plays three gamest at the Principia, on Clayton Road between Interstate 270 and Mason Road in Town and Country. Two games are at 5:45 including the Stallions 17 on July3 and the Jefferson County Blazers on July 9 while the July 7 game against the South West Stars 17 starts at 12 noon. The SW Stars 18 plays 6 p.m. games in Illinois, at Waterloo, July 5 and Mascoutah July 6.
