All the activities at the Fall Festival are along rue St. Francois in Old Town
The 20th annual Old Town Fall Festival will be held Sunday, Oct. 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. this year. The festival is co-sponsored by Florissant Old Town Partners, City of Florissant, Missouri Arts Council, and the Regional Arts Council.
As always, big crowds are expected, and in previous years over 35,000 visitors attended the weekend events. Eleven blocks (from Florissant Rd. down to St. Ferdinand Shrine) will be closed off for the event.
Events include a craft fair, flea market, chili cook-off, pony rides, wine and cheese garden, large flower show and competition, historic displays, children’s activities, re-enactors and celebration of our cultural heritage.
The street will be lined with activities for everyone with over 150 booths including games to play, sale items, food and beverages.
Of course, Fido Follies will be back at the Government Center, 1055 rue St. Francois, at the very top of the street. Barronwood Kennels will emcee again this year and will have trophies for the largest dog, the tallest dog, the best kisser, the best trick and other categories. They have added new category this year- dog that looks most like their owner!
The Florissant Police Officers Welfare Association Car & Bike Show is back again this year on the Knights of Columbus Grounds, 25 W. Washington. Registration is from 8 a.m. to noon and 50 trophies will be awarded at 3:30 p.m.
There will be 50/50 raffles, prizes, K-9 demos, live music by Stray Bullet, and the first 150 entries get an event T-shirt. Pre-register before Sept. 25 to guarantee a T-shirt plus car show hoodie with minimum $30 donation.
Starting this year, there’s a show within a show, featuring a separate category for Pro-Street cars. The showcase category will change year to year.
The entertainment at the Lawyers Building will be the Bob Kuban Band on the band shell at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The band is sponsored by the City of Florissant and Missouri Arts Council.
The bands and entertainment to date are: Bucket List, Dennis Schilligo, Jason Simmons, Retro Band, After Hours Community Band, Dan Sproat and the Florissant Barbershoppers, Cookie the Clown, the Kincaid Karacter Puppets, Stiltwalker/juggler, story teller, pumpkin decorating, and school districts will be offering the opportunity for children to create their own masterpieces with the help of volunteer teachers.
There will be free shuttles running up and down St. Catherine all day for patrons’ use.
More than 60 crafters will show off their talent with hand crafted works for everyone to browse and buy. The craft fair is located near City Hall and the old Bank of America parking lot.
The Children’s Art Activities tent, sponsored by the Hazelwood Head Start Program, will be set up on the lawn of Florissant City Hall.
MoChips and the Florissant Police Department will offer free child identification kits inside City Hall. They will be set up in the Council Chambers near the Children’s Hands-on-Art at City Hall.
This is a dog-friendly event and water bowls will be provided on every block. Dogs must be leashed and licensed.
The Festival is chaired by Karen Goodwin and Diana Weidinger, along with their committee.
